Greetings!

Tina Gleisner and Dennis Turmel

Hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend. Are your plans set for July 4th and other summer celebrations?

I had so much fun writing about outdoor living spaces last month, it was time to get down to the basics of taking care of your wood decks. Much of the information also applies to other wood - stains, fences, etc.

Yikes, all work and no play isn't much fun. That's why the "work" is on our blog and the newsletter is full of fun deck photos and what I love about them, as ultimately if you're outdoors and relaxing, cooking and sitting around with friends, you've got to like what's around you, so let's dream together.

Would love you to get photos of your decks which we can share here (anonymously). If you've got a problem, send photos and explain what's wrong and we'll offer our best ideas on the blog. If you're happy with your deck, we'd still want your photos ... and the best photo (clue - everyone loves photos of pets and kids) will win a $25 gift card to a local home improvement store.

Have a wonderful 4th of July and remember, photos last forever!

Deck ideas to help you dream
Decks with A View

This deck is all about the views. We spend so much time indoors, that one of the most enjoyable aspects of relaxing on a deck is simply gazing out to the hills, a far away mountain, a lake or pool and simply dreaming. Most homes have a deck off the kitchen or family room, making eating outdoors convenient. If you're not taking advantage of your views, why not add one?

Quiet Dining Spaces

When you're eating on the deck right outside the house, it still feels like you're home. When you create a dining space like this one, nestled at the edge of your lawn and next to the trees, you can dream about far away places and let go of your day's stresses. It's just like taking a mini vacation for the evening, a vacation in your own backyard.

Multi-Purpose Spaces

Maybe you find cooking relaxing (I don't) and you want to dream up lots of wonderful meals on the barbeque. Maybe you just like sitting and reading, or snoozing, outdoors when the weather's nice. This deck has enough space for multiple activities to happen at the same time, which is especially important with children.

Decks & Making Them Look Their Best

Wondering if a Deck is Your Best Idea?

Everyone's house is different, and our lifestyles might on the surface, seem similar but we're all unique. Here are lots of ideas for finding the best outdoor living space for you and your family.
