Greetings!

Tina Gleisner and Dennis Turmel

Spring is a time for new beginnings and after a long winter, it seemed like it was time to have some fun.

While I always provide some "must do around the house" projects and one or more fun ideas, this month I decided to focus on the fun with 10 ideas. These projects include ways to update your home for more enjoyment, and many ideas will increase your home's value.

Now I haven't been spending every night writing, so lots of these ideas are meant to help you dream. We've got articles coming about decks, patios and more in upcoming newsletters (or you can subscribe to our blog for early updates). If you've got a project in mind and want some planning help, email me and we'll add an article to help you plan your dream project.

Wishing you lots of fun with your spring projects from gardening  flower boxes, de-cluttering your garage or adding a deck or swing set. Let Mr Handyman handle your home maintenance chores so you've got time for your dream project?

Why not join us outdoors and enjoy the beautiful weather.

10 Spring Ideas to Enjoy Your Home
de-cluttering the garage

1. De-Cluttering Your Garage - Garage clutter seems to happen overnight, as we toss stuff in there when we're cleaning the rest of the house and forget about it. We don't spend much time in the garage so we forget to keep it clean or organized until we can't find something we need and we realize it's time to take control.

Why not start your spring projects by cleaning out & getting rid of things you never use? Get tips on garage storage and holding a garage sale to de-clutter.

2. Extra Storage with a Shed - Maybe you need more storage and a small shed in your backyard might be the right answer. Do your homework and calculate the cost of the shed, shipping, preparing the land (must be level) and installation. The key is how many pieces have to be assembled and I appreciate the honesty of StorageShedOutlet.com as they tell you up front, what's not included.

3. Backyard Fun for Children - While swing sets are the most common type of outdoor play space, you have many choices. There are some terrific resources to help you think outside the box, and plan a natural playground with your children. By including them in the design and implementation, they will learn many important lessons so check out Backyard Fun is More than a Swing Set.

4. Tips to Installing a Swing Set - If you and your children decide to get a swing set, read Tips to Installing a Swing Set, to save time. Swing sets aren't difficult but do take more time and preparation than most parents realize. Many (box store) come with thousands of hardware pieces and hundreds of parts requiring pre-assembly and very few can be assembled in one day or weekend.

5. Tree Houses for Children, Small or Big - Still thinking about the tree house you wanted as a child. I was blown away by the creativity of modern day tree houses, so check out WebUrbanist.com. They are simply amazing! Maybe your kids are older or you don't have a tree, so a visit to tree house Bed and Breakfast might fulfill your dream.

Garden arbor6. Flower Pots for the Avid Gardener - If you love flowers, there's always room for more color somewhere in your yard especially after a long winter with very little color.

Get inspiration for adding more color to your home with our photo article, Spring Flowers Add Color to Our Lives. You'll enjoy planning your flower projects and the brilliant colors that always surprise us.

7. Picking Your Spring Flowers - If you're not an avid gardener (I'm not), then deciding what flowers to plant can be a challenge. Here's a fun website that offers a List of Spring Flowers to give you an idea of the possibilities.

Then you're ready to head off to your local nursery and if you need help building flower beds, installing an arbor or flower boxes, you know you can find a helping hand at Mr Handyman.

8. Decks, Patios and Outdoor Entertaining - Now is the time to plan your vacation and if you'll be spending more time at home this summer, why not turn your backyard into the perfect staycation possible. Outdoor kitchens are becoming very popular and a tad expensive too. If you're wondering why, a quick visit to the OutdoorKitchenDepot.com shows enough products to rival any indoor kitchen. When you want to start or stay small, you can buy the perfect grill and Mr Handyman will work with you to create a built-in look with ample storage.

9. Planning an Addition? - More people are staying in their homes and remodeling to create the space they want. You'll want to factor in the value of any investment when it comes time to sell your home, using the latest, 2010 Remodeling Trends. This time of year you might be tempted with a sun room so you're able to enjoy more "outdoor" time every year. Whatever project you pick, remember there are Building Codes to Make Your Home Safe.

10. Pool, Spa or Fish Pond? - Putting a pool in is a big decision that requires careful thought. With a pool you've got cleaning, maintenance and safety issues to address. There are other options to adding a little water to your landscape from a small fish pond to a fountain. Whatever you decide, remember it should be something you're going to enjoy for many years!
