Greetings!
Tina Gleisner and Dennis Turmel
Children are back in school, days are getting shorter and that means it's time to prepare for the rainy, colder weather headed our way.

Have you heard of Pandora's box? I've found so many incredible Green Ideas that I'll be adding more articles to the blog on things like ... edible walls! While I was skeptical when the Green movement began and still question labels in the stores, there really are some fantastic ideas for improving our lives and the environment too.

We all need to change our focus though and the Fall Season is the perfect time to assess your home's exterior. You need to find and correct problems related to water penetration - as repairs are always more costly than regularly scheduled maintenance. Next comes saving money with a focus on ways to keep your conditioned air, heated or cooled, inside your house.

Home maintenance is more critical than ever. We're staying in our homes longer. Where previously people moved every 5 to 7 years, we're now staying 8 to 10 more years. Issues we relied on home inspections to find are being delayed and that's not good. You can avoid higher repair costs by finding and fixing your home's problems now.

Umbrellas keep people dry; roofs keep houses dryUmbrellas and Staying Dry

When it's raining and you need to go out, you're likely to pull out your raincoat or an umbrella. Just like an umbrella protects you from getting wet, the roof of your house directs the rain to the edges of the roof. Siding is like a raincoat providing a barrier so that water runs down the outside and doesn't let the inside of your home get wet.
Learn how to identify when your house is getting wet inside, and tips to prevent or repair these problems.

Insulation saves energy and moneyInsulation Facts and Figures

The US government has included insulation on the list of eligible home improvements for the 2009-2010 energy tax credit. The question then is why does the government want home owners to add insulation? The government is trying to motivate reductions in the use of energy, and when insulation reduces the exchange of air between your home and the outside, you save energy.

Learn how your home might benefit from more insulation ...
