Paperless Bond Processing Reminder
CBP posted a reminder about paperless bond processing that we thought important to pass along to our clients. It reminds the trade of the following:

  • CBP prefers to receive all bond documents in TIF format (versus .pdf or any other format), with a dpi no larger than 300.
  • CBP prefers to receive continuous bond documents in a specific order.

If you are using Roanoke Trade's FastBondTM, your documents already comply with the above.

CBP also reminded sureties that they may choose to participate in receiving approved bond documents via email or risk waiting up to 6 months for copies. As such, Roanoke Trade has been participating in the email program on behalf of its sureties, and may provide you or your client with copies upon request.

Changes on Late ISFs take effect January 23, 2011
On January 23, 2011, CBP will begin accepting late-filed ISFs without a bond. A new code has been created as noted in CBP's July 2010 ISF FAQ. CBP cautioned, however, that the trade should use this code as little as possible. It may trigger CBP to conduct examination of such shipments, causing delays and extra expenses for the importer.

While your clients may consider this a better alternative to obtaining a bond, this new filing option should be carefully considered given the greater potential for examination as stated above.
