Greetings!

I am thrilled to have the opportunity and honor to serve as the new president of Women's Philanthropy, an organization that has always been blessed with extraordinary energy, unique camaraderie, and remarkable talent. I intend to work alongside the many women who make up our special community to build on that great legacy of achievement. The next two years will be as exciting as they are promising, and I look forward to sharing, learning, and growing with all of you, as well as the many women who are joining us daily.

Women's Philanthropy is currently working diligently to complete this year's campaign; while at the same time, our new officers have already begun some planning for next year. A strong campaign is critical to support the work we do in helping the Jewish Community here in Philadelphia, in Israel, and around the world. We have set a fundraising goal of $6 million for Women's Philanthropy and we are fortunate to have the incredibly talented leadership of our Campaign co- chairs, Sara Minkoff and Susan Schwartz, and our Major Gifts co-chairs, Sharon Levin and Holly Nelson. These four women are energetic, creative and have many new and innovative ideas to move us forward.

Jackie in Israel
I am very excited to be co-chairing the Women's Leadership Development Program this coming year with Robin Zappin. I know we will be a great team and will be able to contribute a lot to the community.

I am looking forward to being able to help the many talented women in our community understand the various aspects of Federation and, perhaps more importantly, help them find where in the community they can pursue their goals. Over the two years that I have been involved in the Leadership Development program, I have learned so much about the many needs that our community has, both here and abroad, and the many ways one can give back.

Closing WP Board meeting
On May 14, 2008 the members of the Women's Philanthropy Board gathered for the closing board meeting at Green Valley Country Club.
In addition to hearing remarks from Beth Mann, Managing Director of Women's Philanthropy at United Jewish Communities in New York, the gavel was passed from Women's Philanthropy President, Gail Norry to Karen Kramer.

Gail has been the President of Women's Philanthropy for the past 2 years. She has done an outstanding job leading the Jewish women in our community. We are quite fortunate to have Karen Kramer to continue in this role for the next 2 years.

Lions in Spring
On Tuesday June 3, over 30 Philadelphia Lion of Judah donors enjoyed a delicious lunch and program at the home of Bryna Berman. The event, co-chaired by Lori Levin and Marian Fisher, was an opportunity to thank our Lions for their generosity and loyalty. The keynote speaker was Stanley Alpert. He shared details about his personal experience of being kidnapped at gunpoint on his 38th birthday.

The ladies also had the honor of hearing from Rose Smith. The daughter of Holocasut survivors, Rose talked briefly about her family's personal story and the importance of creating a Jewish identity.

GVCC Women's Day
Green Valley Country Club's Women's Day otherwise known as Green Valley University was in session on May 20th. Denise Krekstein and Marian Matez co- chaired this wonderful day. The goal of the day was to have the participants learn more about themselves and the community, have fun and spend time with friends old and new. The women participated in a plethora of classes in the morning and afternoon and in between they came together for lunch in the "cafeteria". The keynote speaker was Dr. Ellen Cannon, a political scientist, who gave us an insider's view of the issues surrounding the upcoming election and the power of women in the election process.

Where We've Been:
Women's Philanthropy Connecting Event
On Tuesday, May 13, over 25 women attended the Women's Philanthropy Connecting event, "Raising a Mensch in the 21st Century". Ami Lonner and Cara Levinson co-chaired the event and it took place in Ami's beautiful Wynnewood home.

Meredith Jacobs, author of "Modern Jewish Mom's Guide to Shabbat" was an entertaining speaker who shared several relevant tips on how to raise children today. She spoke about the importance of communication especially in a time of computers, text messages and all of the other technological devices that kids can't live without.

It was wonderful to see so many new faces in the room and the women in attendance were very engaged as many of them purchased Meredith's recent book.
For the 2008 campaign Women's Philanthropy raised $3,721,731 from 5,823 donors.

We have 70% of our money closed from 62% of our donors.

We are ahead of pace and have a 9.2% card-for-card increase (women gave 9.2% more this year than in 2007)
Thank you for all your support while starting up the Newsletter. It has really become a part of what WP is all about: educating, fundraising and sharing our experiences with each other as we make this journey. And who doesn't love the pictures? I look forward to its continued growth under the direction of the very creative and talented Jackie Needleman. Have a wonderful summer!
