Human Rights Activist Majed El Shafie Will Address the Canadian Parliament’s Subcommittee on International Human Rights on November 22nd

-- The Subcommittee on International Human Rights will hear testimony from One Free World International’s President and Founder, Majed El Shafie, on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. El Shafie will testify on the persecution of the Copt community in Egypt and Christian minorities in Iraq and Iran. El Shafie’s testimony will also include details from One Free World International’s recent fact-finding missions to Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Last week, El Shafie traveled to Washington, D.C., where on November 17th he testified before the U.S. House of Representative’s Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights. That hearing was televised live on C-SPAN.

One Free World International is an international human rights organization based in Toronto, Canada, that focuses on the rights of religious minorities around the world and promotes tolerance, understanding and respect for diverse religious beliefs. The organization promotes awareness of human rights abuses and comes to the aid of those who are suffering because of their religious beliefs or expression.

Majed El Shafie was arrested, tortured and sentenced to die in Egypt because of his Christian faith. Escaping to Israel, he was imprisoned until his eventual release a year and a half later.
