Year end. Seasons have finally changed. Nights are colder and the days short. We feel the call to turn inward to the fire, family and friends.
Symbolically this is a time of growing consciousness and a powerful opportunity to set intentions in our lives. Our yoga practice, our sadhana, is a doorway into our inner life and to the dreams we want to manifest in the new year. As we pass through the longest night of the year and the winter solstice, we remember that the new light of the year will shine brightly on the these growing seeds of our ever expanding intentional life.
We can mark this transition with conscious reflection, heart intentions and joyful celebration. In this time of relative darkness and economic uncertainty, we can celebrate our good fortune and true abundance by sharing our love with others through the ritual of giving from our hearts as an expression of gratitude.
We are committed to building community and to supporting the development of real, lasting peace, harmony and consciousness in our lives and in our world. We are always tremendously touched and grateful that so many of you have joined us on this journey. Your practice on the mat, your smiles, your growing families, and the moving comments we hear from you about your experience, are all a gift to us.

This vigorous class will not only focus on core strength and healthy physical alignment, but will also invoke the question of our "life alignment." An aligned body is healthy - an aligned heart and mind is even healthier. This unique practice is designed to awaken the strength of the body and the healing power of the heart. Class will include vinyasa-flow, non-dogmatic philosophy, breathing, and meditation.
The Healing Power of Forgiveness Workshop

Forgiveness is perhaps the most powerful tool we have for healing ourselves. To forgive another, heals oneself, just as anger toward another poisons oneself. Anger and resentment destroy our lives. For the body to heal, often times what is most vital is to heal the broken heart or spirit. Failure to forgive affects our stress level, power to heal the body, discernment, and all our relationships. The first part of this seminar is a powerful lecture on forgiving others, the second part will address forgiving oneself, and the third part include gentle yoga movement, breathing exercises, and guided meditation with emphasis on emotional transformation. Appropriate for all levels.

Daniel's kirtan is a unique blend of western soul and jazz style improvisation with authentic Sanskrit mantras. The joy he feels singing is evident in the energy that grows in the room and the heart opening often experienced by participants.
He believes that together the musicians and the audience find union as they create an ecstatic experience of blissful music and deep meditation.
Please join Daniel and many wildly talented musical friends on Friday, December 10th at 8:30 pm. No singing experience needed, only a willingness to open your heart to the joy.

|Intro to Shadow Yoga with Matt Pesendian

Matt Pesendian has been practicing and studying the art of Hatha Yoga for 20 years, dedicating his studies to the teachings of Sri T. Krishnamacharya and Zhander Remete, the founder of Shadow Yoga. He received his master's degree and licensure in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is the co-owner of Village Community Acupuncture in Sherman Oaks, Ca. He also developed a Medical Qigong program at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara and teaches yoga/qigong workshops and retreats.
Shadow Yoga, founded by Zhander Remete, is a Hatha Yoga system designed to integrate the common principles of yoga asana, martial arts, South Indian dance and Ayurvedic medicine. The starting point consists of 3 standing prelude forms, all devised to prepare the body for asana-vinyasa. The full practice format consists of prelude forms, asanas, inversions, bandhas, kriyas, mudras and pranayama. This class will focus on the basic yogic principles, focal points, postures and techniques which stand at the heart of this unique Hatha Yoga practice.

Kiera began her yoga journey eight years ago in New York City, completing her 200-hour teacher training with YogaWorks in New York under Chrissy Carter and Ann Mosca in 2003. She is now working towards 500-hour certification with her mentor, Jasmine Lieb. Kiera focuses on alignment and breath integration in her classes, and strives to approach the practice with a playful and light-hearted attitude. She is inspired by music, theatre and poetry, and endeavor to use these as teaching tools in the studio. Currently, Kiera is immersing herself in the study of therapeutic yoga and hope to continually grow as a teacher and student of this discipline. She lives in the Valley with her new husband Bradford, and their dog, Huck. Kiera is so grateful to be a part of the beautiful community at Rising Lotus Yoga!

As the child of two medical doctors, Kate grew up with a profound interest in well-being. A passionate athlete, she ran Division I track and field at Dartmouth College; she later devoted herself to long-distance running and finished near the top of her age group in half-marathons and marathons around New England. She discovered yoga in 2002, and within a few years developed a daily, breath-focused and alignment-based practice. Kate moved to Los Angeles from New York in 2007, and received her yoga certification a year later. She is currently a yoga instructor and a health psychology graduate student at UCLA. Kate feels blessed to have discovered yoga, a practice which continuously encourages her own self-development, self-acceptance, and sense of gratitude for the beauty of the world around her. In her classes, she strives to make yoga a joyful, challenging, and deeply personal practice for her students. Kate is deeply grateful for her students and fellow yogis, who continue to teach her profound lessons about life; in return, she is delighted to be able to help them discover and manifest their own paths!
