Welcome to Grace!

As part of our being Grace in the city, we want to extend our welcome to anyone seeking God or a deeper life with God. If someone you know fits that situation, consider forwarding this newsletter to her or him. Or, if you prefer, let the church office know and we'll do the forwarding.

See you Sunday.

Sunday, June 17, at Grace
weeds Eucharist, Refreshments

We celebrate the Eucharist at 10:00 AM.

"The reign of God is like a mustard seed." Mustard, where Jesus was talking from, is a weed. How can the reign of God be like a weed?

At the time of the collection, we have the opportunity to contribute to the work of the church beyond Grace, through the United Thank Offering. Our parish received a substantial grant from the UTO several years ago so we could renovate the downstairs bathrooms. Supporting this national effort, as we are able, would be a way to express appreciation and to enable other parishes in need to benefit. I encourage you to be generous.

After the service, we'll gather for refreshments and conversation.
Grace Montessori School
We celebrated another year

The children and parents and staff of our school gathered at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem yesterday for the annual recognition ceremony ("graduation"). Each class performed some musical selections, and students who have finished programs received certificates. The staff convened afterward for a celebratory lunch at a restaurant.

School-year activity has come to a close, and it's time for the next phase: six weeks of summer camp.
Allentown Arts Park
lively lunches Weekly market and music are across the street

The Allentown Growers' Market, with fresh produce and prepared foods, has moved to the Arts Park this year. The park is a gem just up the street from Grace, beside the Baum School on Fifth Street. There are picnic tables, a fountain, and grass bordered by plenty of walls for seating. The market is held every Wednesday, 11:30-1:30, until mid-October. Each week, there is music as well. For more information and the music schedule, click here.

Allentown also hosts "Lively Lunches" in the Arts Park. Each Tuesday from 12:00-1:30, a local musician or band sets up in a corner and adds a festive tone for the local office workers and neighbors eating their lunches. It's a low-key and pleasant thing to do on a summer day. For a schedule, click here.
Community Gardening
zucchini Two raised beds are available

While it's a late start to the gardening year, it's not too late to plant and harvest some produce, either for yourself or for neighbors who use our food pantry.

Two raised beds are available at Franklin Park, which is near 14th and Turner Streets in Allentown. There is a shed for shared equipment and a water source with soaker hoses.

If you'd like more information, contact Bob House by email or phone (610-435-0782).
Summer Reading Group
summer reading It starts this Sunday night

A group of parishioners has been gathering for several years now on summer Sunday nights to read and converse about a book or two, as well as to enjoy refreshments and each other's company. The group gathers in homes.

The first book this summer is Tavis Smiley and Cornel West's The Rich and the Rest of Us: A Poverty Manifesto, and the the group will begin on this Sunday. For more information, contact Mary Louise Bross or Bob House.  If you would like to buy the book at the Moravian Book Shop in downtown Bethlehem, you can get a discount and not pay sales tax if you tell them you are reading it with the Grace group.
