Simple Tips for Staying One Step Ahead

According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America today. To minimize your risks:

  • Check your home mailbox daily and drop your outgoing mail into a secure postal mailbox only.
  • Carry only what you need in your wallet or purse and keep an itemized list or photocopy of those items on paper.
  • Give out your personal information, such as social security number, strictly on a "need to know" basis, and only to legitimate businesses.
  • Regularly update your computer virus protection software.
  • Stay up-to-date on your credit history by reviewing your credit record at least once a year.
