House Maintenance Checklist
1. Clean and inspect your gutters Take advantage of the dry summer weather to clear out leaves, needles, and debris from all the gutters on your house. This will leave them free to carry rainwater safely away from your home and will not only keep your home looking its best but protect it over the long term from developing harmful mold and rot.
2. Consider gutter guards Depending on the number of trees around your house, your gutters may be filling up frequently and the biggest problem is that it's often hard to tell. In this case, you might want to investigate installing gutter guards (or screens, filters or covers) to reduce - and even eliminate - cleaning. There's a wide variety of options to choose from, made from various metals or synthetics, and you'll be amazed at how much better your gutters will perform and how much better you will feel about it. |

3. Inspect your roof thoroughly for wear and tear
There's no better time than summer to make sure your roof is as strong and durable as it can be. Give it the full inspection it deserves by making sure there are no loose, curling, broke, cracked, missing or damaged shingles - not only will this help provide maximal protection but will keep it looking its best. As always, a professional inspection is the best way to make sure everything is in good shape - you'll be thankful you did.

4. Clean dryer vents
Although you probably know to remove lint from your clothes dryer's lint filter after each use, you may not have heard that proper maintenance also includes cleaning the hose that pipes warm, moist air from the dryer to the outdoors. This will not only prevent harmful lint buildup that can ultimately cause fires, but it will also keep your dryer running more smoothly and efficiently. |

5. Seal decks against weather
Wood decks need to be painted or stained every two to three years - more often if they face extreme weather. Why? Because a properly sealed deck will last much longer than one that is untreated. And best of all, you won't believe how much better your deck will look and how much more you will enjoy spending time on it. |
