Barack Obama, 2008: "Words matter."
NPA, 2012:
"We're taking THIS ONE back from your sorry ass!"
When the NPA was founded last fall at FireDogLake, true Progressives united around the knowledge that Barack Obama is about as Progressive as Jesse Helms. We didn't wait for this ersatz Prog to put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block.
In an offhand comment yesterday, FDL founder Jane Hamsher suggested that those of us fighting for truly Progressive ideals should "dump the word" because it have been so compromised by the Democratic Party:
"I seriously think we need to dump the word. It has become meaningless, the symbol of a failed movement-that-wasn't that was easily pulled into line behind a neoliberal agenda."
