Chair-Leaders - May 15, 2012
This event was a fantastic success! 8 Chair-Leaders participated, 4 of whom took on the challenge of navigating downtown Grande Prairie to run errands or go to work. Comments included, "It took an hour to get the 4 blocks to my office because I had to cross the road at the light!" "The brick sidewalks are murder! They are uneven and my wheels got stuck". "It was scary in the parking lot and the big truck backing up couldn't see me." Also, "Thank you for organizing this day - it sure gives me lots to think about." and "Next year we want to get even more city employees out, and maybe a representative from the Down Town Business Association." Our committee would like to extend an extra big thanks to our sponsors, and to the people at Points West Living who held a bakesale on behalf of the Chair-Leaders Enabling Access event.

Fort McMurray
PARTY Program
In our second year of involvement, this program is very effective and has many positive impacts. We have provided a choices station where students can try different scenarios to help them relate and learn what it may be like to sustain an injury or live with a life changing, risk-related injury. The P.A.R.T.Y program provides young people with information about trauma (injury) that will enable them to recognize potential injury - related situations, make prevention-orientated choices, and adopt behaviours that minimize unnecessary risk.
Days of Caring Project
United Way of Fort McMurray is matching host agencies to community volunteers to provide a day of caring in our community. CPA in Fort McMurray has chosen to re-paint accessible parking spaces in need of a touch-up. We have scoped out the community and chosen spaces in need. Many will benefit from this project and we look forward to being involved.
Welcome New Staff
Former resident of Fort McMurray, Meagan MacKenzie has been hired as a Community Development Coordinator for the Fort McMurray office.
