"Considering that thousands of horses are taking MSM - either on its own or as part of a nutraceutical blend - on a regular basis, I can absolutely guarantee that there a lot of tired and out-of-breath horses out there whose only problem is a reaction to sulphur." ~ Marijke van de Water
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a form of sulphur which has proven valuable for arthritis, joint pain and swellings. I find it particularly beneficial for acute muscle injuries and some forms of arthritis. MSM strengthens connective tissue and helps to increase the permeability of the joint and muscle membranes allowing excess fluid to discharge relieving swelling and eliminating toxins.
However, it is important to remember that many horses (like people) are sensitive to sulphur and that many times a sensitive horse will not tolerate sulphur - either immediately after starting the supplement, or over time. The most common symptoms of a sulphur sensitivity are fatigue, shortness of breath and skin problems (in that order).
Considering that thousands of horses are taking MSM - either on its own or as part of a nutraceutical blend - on a regular basis I can absolutely guarantee that there a lot of tired and out-of-breath horses out there whose only problem is a reaction to sulphur.
