Fryeburg Fair, established in 1851, will host its 162nd annual eight day fair September 30-October 7 in Fryeburg, Maine. As always Fryeburg Fair, considered to be one of the best agricultural fairs in the U.S., will host eight days of non-stop livestock, agriculture and farming exhibitions with over 3,000 head of cattle, horses, sheep, goats, hogs, poultry, rabbits, oxen and more. Fair events include Woodsmen's Field Day, horse and ox pulling, draft horse tandem hitches up to eight, pig scrambles, calf scrambles, cooking contests, flower shows, exhibition halls of crafts, handiwork, photos, art, forest and wood products, fiber products; a full museum of old farm equipment and memorabilia with live demonstrations; the "Little Red Schoolhouse" built in 1835; the milking parlor, firemen's musters, sheepdog trials, tractor pulling, 4WD pulls and pari-mutuel harness racing on the Fair's half-mile track. Entertainment is everywhere with singers, musicians, bands, and performers in the Fair's park areas. This year's night show headliners are - "The Jonathan Sarty Band," "The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band," "Asleep at the Wheel," "Jo Dee Messina," "Craig Campbell," & "Lexi James." The Fair is known for the best food - French fries made with the finest Maine potatoes, onion rings, the freshest seafood & lobster, soups, ethnic food, downhome Maine goodies like Indian pudding, apple crisp, donuts - you can even find organics and healthy food! A multitude of selections for every taste! The annual Fireworks show on Friday night right after the Night Show ends is always fantastic and the Grand Parade is two hours of Fryeburg Fair's best on display - Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Don't miss it all! |
The Grand Opening of Fryeburg Fair's Specialty Foods Pavilion! The 2012 Fryeburg Fair debuts its new Specialty Foods Pavilion. What does that mean? The National Association for the Specialty Food Trade says the term "specialty foods" means "Foods and beverages that exemplify quality, innovation and style whose specialty nature derives from some or all of the following characteristics: originality, authenticity, ethnic or cultural origin, specific processing, ingredients, limited supply, distinctive use, extraordinary packaging or specific channel of distribution or sale." Still under construction, Fryeburg Fair's Specialty Foods Pavilion encompasses over 6,800 square feet of space. Each end of the building has a farmer's porch with new seating. With 34 vendor spaces, the Pavilion is located near the Fair's Craft Center and Agriculture Building. Pavilion Superintendent Jean Andrews says, "We are very excited about the opening of our new endeavor! We are hoping to promote our local agricultural products and our local economy." Andrews is thrilled to list off a few of the following vendors who have confirmed spots at the 2012 Fair, "Lakonia Greek Products, Fieldstone Farms, Better Than Average Jams & Jellies, Dean's Sweets, The Bavarian Chocolate House, NH Kettle Korn and Above the Dam Jam are just a few." For more information about the Fair's Specialty Foods Pavilion contact Jean Andrews at craftctr@fryeburgfair.org. |
