New EC Declarations of Conformity and Declarations of Incorporation for Europe

New Materials Name Contest Winners

Congratulations to our winners Karl Bergmann and Richard Sterzen. The have each won a GIW jacket and a $100 gift card.

The new names are Enduraclad & Endurasite.

Enduraclad is GIW's trademarked name for the laser cladding that is being added to our parent metal.  This is a hard facing or coating similar to a thickened skin. It helps to delay the initial wearing of the part and is proving to be very successful in the Oil Sands market.

Endurasite is the name for GIW's Material X.  This is a new white iron blend based on GIW's proprietary "Gasite" material.  This metal is developed using a different mixture of metals and heat treatments. It can be used on wet end parts to double the current wear life of our toughest Gasite metal.

A trademark is being applied for both Enduraclad and Endurasite.
Thanks to all who participated in the Materials Naming Contest.

KE Stuffing Box Conserve WaterGIW has revised their Stuffing Box Seal Water charts in the maintenance manuals to include the "KE" (Minimum Dilution), Forward Flush, Throat Bushing and Spiral Trac (R) Throat Bushing.  All charts have been revised to show the Nominal and Maximum flow rates.

The new "KE" Stuffing Box design only requires flows at 5% of the flow rate of the Forward Flush Stuffing Boxes - this is a whopping 95% reduction!

KE features include:

  • Maximum water control desired
  • Pressure controlled
  • Packing between the lantern ring & wear plate to restrict flow into pump
  • Packing behind lantern ring provides seal to atmosphere

Check out the updated charts on page 24 of the LCC Maintenance Manual and page 22 of the LSA Maintenance Manual.

New EC Declarations of Conformity and Declarations of Incorporation for Europe

A new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC went into effect in December 2009. This requirement is for all pumps going to Europe.  Prior to this change, GIW only had to conform for pumps that included drive equipment.  However, the new directive now requires that bare shaft pumps follow this process as well.

1.       What are EC Declarations of Conformity and Declarations of Incorporation?

An EC Declaration of Conformity is a declaration issued by the manufacturer (or, in special cases, the manufacturer's authorised representative) to confirm that the product being placed on the market meets the basic health and safety requirements of all relevant European Directives, i.e. that it is in conformity with these directives. The EC Declaration of Conformity is the basis for the product's CE marking.  The Machinery Directive states that the EC Declaration of Conformity must accompany each product that is delivered.

Declaration of Incorporation

A Declaration of Incorporation is issued for partly completed machinery by the manufacturer or an authorised representative. It states that the partly completed machinery must not be put into service until the machinery or plant into which this partly completed machinery is to be installed has been declared in conformity with the Directive.  According to the Machinery Directive partly completed machinery cannot be assigned a CE marking.

2.)
When are EC Declarations of Conformity and Declarations of Incorporation required?

In contrast to the past, a pump (Fig. 0) is now regarded as a complete machine.

This means that pump sets and pumps (Fig. 0) must be delivered with a valid Declaration of Conformity.

Declaration of Incorporation

With the entry into effect of the new Machinery Directive, all "Declarations by the Manufacturer" are rendered invalid and may no longer be used.

A Declaration of Incorporation must now accompany all partly completed machinery.

Back pull-out units with impellers are regarded as partly completed machinery. Back pull-out units without impellers are treated as components whose placing on the market is not regulated by the Machinery Directive.

Who issues EC Declarations of Conformity and Declarations of Incorporation?

The documents for our GIW products are in the process of being prepared by KSB.  GIW and KSB are working close together to ensure that GIW meets all the requirements of the declaration.  Should you have any questions with regard to this information, please contact the GIW marketing department.
