Not just another networking event!
Do we really need another event with handshakes and small talk? We have heard from you that you want more than this and have initiated Communities of Practice for Environmental Educators. Here are three ways Communities of Practice are different.
- We hired a coordinator. Each Community of Practice has a coordinator who is paid an honorarium to convene meetings, send out agendas, keep notes and generally help community members stay connected and accountable.
- You decide on your focus. You are experts in your field, you know what you need to take it to the next level. Members of a Communities of Practice work together to decide on a focus and take actions towards that focus.
- This is not a one time event. Communities of Practice connect over time and develop strong and productive relationships. In addition to the face to face launch event, there will be conference calls, on-line discussion forums and a webpage dedicated to your CoP. You can choose what level of participation fits with your current commitment.
The first two Communities of Practice scheduled to be launched this fall are, Water Education and Energy/Climate Change Education. Keep your eye on these pages for more information.

You have been posting cool photos, resources and links on you Facebook page or Twitter account for a while. Now what? To help ACEE answer these questions, we asked Scott Payne from East Side Media to a look at how we were using social media and where we could improve. He had some great suggestions everyone could learn from. Scott will offer some practical ideas and examples in a webinar September 18, 10:30-11:30.
He will share his findings on:
- Connecting with educators. Where are teachers on social media? How do we connect with other organizations?
- Using social media. How do you write a post that engages your
audience? What are some keys tips for each platform?
- Reaching out. How do you increase your following? How do you get your message out there?
