We are now 7 Billion.....
Many pundits hold that human population growth is the mother of all environmental issues. Is there a way for you to tackle this in your environmental education programs? The UN announced on October 31 that the world has reached 7 billion. Here are some resources that may help you explain this to your audiences:
- The famous 'dot video'. This short video from Population Connections uses dots to show world population growth starting in 1AD. The last few seconds pack a punch!
- Population Connections has activities for all school levels that attempt to demonstrate the impact of population on the earth.
- Wombat - this video has been around for awhile, but so to the point!

New Page Needs Your Help!
What is on your Environmental Education bookshelf? The ACEE Executive Director is a policy wonk, so we have lots of that sort of stuff - but we don't have as much 'popular' professional reading as we'd like! (even he admits that policy can be, well, booooring...).
Take a look at what we have www.abcee.org/bookshelf/ and please send your suggestion to Christina. |

Of Wolves, caribou, moose, oil and gas Looking for a lesson that shows the complexity of ecosystem management? Ask students to unpack the relationship between wolves, caribou, moose, oil and gas - and if they agree with the decisions of the wildlife managers to kill wolves, or the author of this article. Find the article here. |
