Get to Know International Unconference Oct. 20-23

The 2011 Get to Know International Unconference will bring together environmental leaders and innovators, as well as youth ambassadors, from across North America to focus on how we can work together to connect youth with nature. The conference takes place in Jasper at the Jasper Park Lodge.
 
VIP guests include: Robert Bateman, Les Stround (TV's Survivorman), and Canadian Olympic Gold Medalist Adam Kreek.

Funding for Professional Development 

PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada Foundation is accepting applications for their Leadership Grant program until October 28. These are available to small-medium sized non-profit organizations. The two grants available are:
  • Individual Leadership Grants: $2,500 for individual staff members or volunteers for professional development opportunities of their own design 
  • Team Leadership Grants: $5,000 for teams of two or more staff members and/or volunteers (including the applicant) for professional development opportunities of their own design

Celebrate a Life!

The environmental world lost a strong spirit and champion this week in Dr. Wangari Maathai of Kenya. She was the founder of the Green Belt Movement and the first environmentalist to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Read more about her life. We also posted this great story told by Dr. Maathai last year, it summarizes very well what she stood for!
