Get Outside and PLAY!

June 15 is Nature Play Day in Canada. Here are some resources to help you get outside and celebrate!  

  • 5 Minute Field Trips is full of easy activities you can do outside in your school yard. 
  •  Robert Bateman Get to Know Program connects students with nature through the arts. This page has videos from artists and suggestions on getting started.
  • Evergreen has a list of lesson plans for every grade for teaching in the outdoor classroom.     
 

Outdoor Time Recognized 

Active Healthy Kids Canada Report 2011 was released in April and for first time has a section on Nature and Outdoor Time. See page 52 of the report for a full summary.

Environment Week is from June 5-11. Here are some resources for the week:

 

Cenovus Energy Environmental Education Leadership Clinic 

Last year, 2 schools and 2 school boards attended the leadership clinic. It was an opportunity for them to develop solid and innovative plans to advance environmental education in their schools. Read what they have accomplished.

 

The application deadline for the 2011 clinic is June 24, apply today.
 

Student Environmental Action in the News  

Grade 5 students at Ranchlands School in Calgary learn about wetlands and take action to help protect the Weaselhead. Read the article and watch the video clip from CTV.

Conference - Engaging Students in the Outdoors   

The GEOEC and the Fish Creek Environmental Learning Centre are hosting a one day conference October 1 in Calgary.

Noel Jantzie Honoured by ATA   

ACEE contractor and great friend to environmental educators, Dr. Noel Jantzie, has received the distinction of honorary membership with Alberta Teacher's Association for exceptional service to the teaching profession.
