Needs Assessment

The results of the two surveys conducted of Teachers and Agency Professionals are now available.

CELEBRATE WINTER

Winter is a magical time to be outside! Here are some ideas to inspire your students to get outside this winter:
  • Carnival - Quebec City knows how to celebrate winter! Have a Carnival in your school yard. This site has a a Teacher's Corner with some activities and ideas.
  • Iditarod sled dog race in Alaska has a section for teachers with resources and ways to follow the race.
  • Ice and snow can be a beautiful medium for art. 
  • There are winter festivals throughout Alberta, here is a listing of just a few.
     
 
Connecting Active Living and Air Quality

The Air Aware Program features multi-media presentations by Champion athletes who address themes related to air quality, asthma, and active living using personal stories.

This national curriculum connected program aims to educate youth (grades 6-12) and adult audiences about the importance of adopting practices which enhance both personal and environmental health.  It is part of the Clean Air Champions Program.
 
Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) Grant
EcoTrust Logo
This grant is for youth between the ages of 16-26 who have an idea for a projects that will have a lasting positive change in the community. Up to $5000 is available.

Deadline is JANUARY 31.

This is an Alberta Ecotrust grant program supported by Alberta Environment and TransAlta.

 
EarthDay Canada - Hometown Heroes Award Program
 

This national program recognizes and celebrates environmental leaders, whether an individual, group or organization.

 

Heroic candidates can win either the Individual Hometown Heroes Award, with a $10000 cash prize ($5000 to keep and $5000 to donate to the environmental cause of their choice), the the Group Hometown Heroes Award, with a $10000 cash prize to support their work.


Deadline is FEBRUARY 28.


 
Emerald Awards

Emerald Award logoognizing and celebrating environmental initiatives undertaken by large and small corporations, individuals, not-for-profits associations, community groups and governments. 

Deadline is FEBRUARY 25.

Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program

This $5 000 entrance scholarship encourages and rewards
graduating high school students who have distinguished themselves through environmental community service, extracurricular and volunteer activities and academic excellence.

Deadline is JANUARY 31.

ON-LINE FINDS
PUBLIC SCHOOL PROJECT in MAPLE RIDGE B.C.
Place-based, imaginative and ecological education initiative, a partnership between community groups, School District 42 Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows, and Simon Fraser University. An idea for Alberta?

Our channel will features ACEE videos as well as relevant environmental education clips. Let us know if you stumble across anything that may be of interest!
OUTDOOR PRESCHOOL
1 in 10 Norwegian Kindergartens are outdoors! This video profiles one school.
Kerry Wood Nature Centre in Red Deer has also started a Nature Nursery for 3-5 year olds.
