CELEBRATING 2010

Some great organizations and people have received deserved recognition for their hard work and dedication to the environment, here are two:
  • Water Matters has been named one of Tides Canada's Top 10! Tides Canada, a national leader in forward-thinking philanthropy, recently announced this year's Top 10 -  an award recognizing groundbreaking environmental and social justice organizations in Canada.

Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) Grant
EcoTrust Logo
This grant is for youth between the ages of 16-26 who have an idea for a projects that will have a lasting positive change in the community. Up to $5000 is available.

Deadline is JANUARY 31.

This is an Alberta Ecotrust grant program supported by Alberta Environment and TransAlta.

 
EarthDay Canada - Hometown Heroes Award Program
 

This national program recognizes and celebrates environmental leaders, whether an individual, group or organization.

 

Heroic candidates can win either the Individual Hometown Heroes Award, with a $10 000 cash prize ($5 000 to keep and $5 000 to donate to the environmental cause of their choice), the the Group Hometown Heroes Award, with a $10 000 cash prize to support their work.


Deadline is FEBRUARY 28.


 
2011 Watershed Stewardship Grants  


Does your stewardship group have a great idea or project that could enhance Alberta's watersheds? Apply for an Alberta Stewardship Network Grant of up to $7500.


Deadline is FEBRUARY 1.

 
Emerald Awards

For 20 years, the Alberta Emerald Foundation has been rec
Emerald Award logoognizing and celebrating environmental initiatives undertaken by large and small corporations, individuals, not-for-profits associations, community groups and governments. 

Deadline is FEBRUARY 25.

Past recipients in the environmental education category include:

  • CPAWS Environment and Action Education Program
  • Strathcona Wilderness Centre
     
 




This conference is taking place in Red Deer February 23-25, with the theme of 'Food, Fuel and Finance - Pathways to Local Resilient Economies'.


Keynote speakers include Chris Turner, Wayne Roberts, Mark Anielski, Woody Tasch and Bob Mills.

There is a reduced registration fee for students and non-profits.

 
2011 Youth Summit on Sustainable Transportation

This conference takes place May 6-8 in Edmonton for Youth aged 18 - 28. This is a fully funded experience!


Deadline to apply is FEBRUARY 18.
ON-LINE FINDS
PUBLIC SCHOOL PROJECT in MAPLE RIDGE B.C.

Our channel will features ACEE videos as well as relevant environmental education clips. Let us know if you stumble across anything that may be of interest!
OUTDOOR PRESCHOOL
1 in 10 Norwegian Kindergartens are outdoors! This video profiles one school.
Kerry Wood Nature Centre in Red Deer has also started a Nature Nursery for 3-5 year olds.
