October is International Walk to School Month                  
In 2009, 40 countries participated. Here are some resources to help you get involved in this initiative that combines environment, health and community.

  • Read our most recent blog post and see pictures of a walking school bus initiative in Canmore.
  • SHAPE is a provincial organization promoting safe routes to school. They have a Walking School Bus manual for Alberta schools.
 
Writers Needed
The Global, Environmental,and Outdoor Education Council (GEOEC) is looking for submissions for the next issue of Connections. The theme is Classroom and Community Projects. Submissions can be made to Lara Fenton at lfenton@ualberta.ca.
ON-LINE FINDS
Green Heroes - Hockey players, musicians and race car drivers?
These short videos tell the stories of national and international green heroes, famous and unknown. The list includes Sarah Harmer (musician), Andrew Ference (Boston Bruins) and Leilani Munter (race car driver). You can also nominate your own heroes for future episodes.

This site has some fantastic recordings of their past training sessions that cover everything from fundraising, improving your newsletters, using social media and much more. Best of all, it is free!
J.B Harkin Medal for Conservation
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is handing out this award November 12 in Calgary at a gala dinner with Dr. Stephen Herrero as guest speaker.
