Friday Night Tasting Lineup
2009 Château de L'Oiseliniere Muscadet de Sevre-et-Maine sur Lie Fresh and slightly sparking, with floral and fruity aromas reminiscent of apricot and hawthorn. After maturation, intense notes of fresh melon develop. Fresh and pleasant in the mouth, with an enviably long finish. Showing nice bottle age, has lots of tart citrus (lemon) left, oyster shell on the nose, balanced. Clean and mineral, a great pairing with bi-valves, grown out of millennia old oyster beds where the Loire river empties into the Atlantic. Pays Nantais subregion of the Loire Valley. 100% Melon de Bourgogne grape. Light in body, with a little more depth of color from its time in the bottle. While classic with oysters, this will pair gleefully with other fresh shellfish and seafood. The extra aging on the lees (spent yeasts) gives some extra flavor complexity.

2008 Lamargue Syrah Les Grand Cabanes
The low hills of the Costières de Nimes have a specific soil called grès - a stony gravel with large pebbles that were carried down from the Alps by the Rhone River. This unusual soil, combined with maritime influences, allow for this region to produce an elegant and distinctive style of wine. Grapes are harvested at optimum maturity from low yield vineyards. Grapes are destemmed, with a three-day cold maceration prior to fermentation, which takes place at controlled temperatures for 8 to 10 days. The fermented juice rests 6 months in tank with soft fining and filtration before bottling. Bright ruby color. Intense and fruit-forward nose, with notes of licorice, red berries and black currant. Fresh, vibrant, and concentrated with soft tannins and a smooth, round finish.
