Greetings!

It seems we are getting closer to a change of license here at East End Wines, which will allow us to do more events and fun things.  An unfortunate side effect to this particular license is giving up our wonderful beer selection.  In preparation for the change, we will taste some of our top beers this Friday.  Mention this newsletter, and I will give a 10% discount on any beer purchased that evening!

Saturday, we will host a wine tasting as well in celebration of 31 Days of German Riesling.  East End Wines welcomes Adeel Arif from Markus Molitor Estate in the Mosel region of Germany.  The Molitor estate, as it was known in 1984, comprised about 19 acres of vineyard land. Today he owns 95 acres in some of the region's most prestigious sites. He began this expansion by entering into a sharecropping arrangement with families that owned vineyards but had no winery facility; Molitor would help with the cultivation, and make the wine in exchange for part of the production. Winemaking is classical---natural yeasts and long, slow fermentations, resulting in wines with bright acidity, crisp fruit and a strong mineral backbone.  If you are a Riesling fan or are curious for more education on this often misunderstood varietal, come see us Saturday!

These emails are archived on the website; they can be accessed through the "current and past newsletters" link at www.eastendwinesatx.com. The weekly wine update is also tweeted, so if you are interested, you can follow us through the link below.

Friday Night Tasting Lineup

Duchesse de Bourgogne 750ml

Flanders Red Ale - 6.00% - The oak conditioning hints of balsamic and red wine vinegar, with fruity sweetness and floral notes of wine. Later, you start tasting the sweet and "chewier" texture of the malt. Slightly sour and highly carbonated, similar to a lambic. Brewed with deep-roasted barley malt and hops with low bitterness. 18 months in oak vats. The tannins present in oak give the fruity character. Then it is blended with younger beer - 8 months old.

Our Price: 13.57

Saison Dupont 750ml

6.5% Saison / Farmhouse Ale - Nice lacing as the head disipates. Smells nutty, yeasty with citrus undertones. Tastes dry, sour and nutty with a nice honey filled grassy earthy character. Mouthfeel has a champagne quality. The Saison Dupont is a top-fermenting lager, bottle-fermented. Since 1844. Aged several months in wooden barrels. Aromas of fine hops, bitterness well pronounced, dry and very refreshing as it was originally. Complex, and very aromatic.

Our Price: 10.97

Stone Cali - Belgi IPA

6.9%. Head is huge with plenty of lacing on the glass. Citrus scents. Taste is a blend of citrus - tart grapefruit and apple, lemon and orange. Slight clove and banana flavor that is a bit reminiscent of a hefeweizen - this is what makes it different from the standard Stone IPA. Stone carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally. Columbus, Chinook, & Centennial hops.

Our Price: 7.97

St Arnold Sailing Santa

American IPA - 7.00%. IPA blended with Winter Warmer. Nose - big toffee and caramel. Smell is all Winter Warmer. Candy. Palate - like the nose suggests...toffee and caramel for this Winter Warmer dominated brew. Medium to full bodied, even carbonation. Toffee malt bomb. Nice candied sweetness, not overly grainy. IPA gives the backbone to make this a worthwhile experiment.

Our Price: 6.57

St. Bernardus Abt 12 - 750ml

Quadrupel - 10.0 % - The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol. High fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Soft aroma. Smoothly tasty. The Abt has a very fruity flavor. Pours a dark brown, with some ruby tinges in it. Head is large, big-bubbled tan, slowly diminishes to some decent lacing. Body has lots of carbonation, and lots of yeasty bits swirling around in it. Aroma is huge, yeasty, vinous, fruity, grapes, raisin, some doughiness, and hints of honey. Flavor is equally huge and complex, lots of fruitiness and sweetness, and changes over time as the brew comes up to room temp. Very full bodied, massively complex flavors and aromas.

Our Price: 12.97

Saturday Night Tasting Lineup

2010 Markus Molitor Estate QBA Riesling

Aromas reminiscent of yellow fruits, pear and pink grapefruit. Long tensional acidity with a tensional mineral finish. Food recommendation: Pumpkin Velouté with Brown Butter, Spicy Ginger Ice Cream Thai Kobe Beef Salad with Grilled Little Gems, Pickled Red Onions, Green Curry. 9%. Versus sold out @ $19.99.

Our Price: 15.97

2007 Markus Molitor Estate QBA Kabinett Riesling

Fruity, 8.5%. Markus Molitor chooses the grapes for this wine from traditional steep vineyard sites along the Middle Mosel. The old parcels (up to 50 years old) with finely splintered slate soils were harvested by hand, fermented with natural yeasts and raised for a long time on its fine lees. Aromas reminiscent of yellow fruits, pear and pink grapefruit. Long tensional acidity with a tensional mineral finish. Pumpkin Velouté with Brown Butter, Spicy Ginger Ice Cream, Thai Kobe Beef Salad, Pickled Red Onions, Green Curry.

Our Price: 18.57

2009 Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Badstube Kabinett Riesling
A fine, fruity and well balanced wine. Aromas reminiscent of green apple, peach, pineapple and goose berry. Fruity and juicy, animating interaction of acidity and fruitiness. With a long, slate dominated mineral finish. 11%. Versus $22.99. The vineyard plot consists of fine slate soils with very good water-retention properties. This produces a very fresh, lively and exceptionally typical Mosel Riesling wine with stable acidity and very good maturation potential. 9.5-10.5%. Enjoy with rich soups, poultry and pasta.

Our Price: 19.97

2006 Markus Molitor Zeltlinger Sonnenuhr Auslese Riesling
This wine comes mainly from very old, ungrafted vines (often more than 80 years old). It grows in fine, but also very stony soils of blue Devon slate. The oldest and best parcels are often located on small terraces with very little soil, producing very low yields of exceptional quality. The Zeltingen wines have an impressive ripeness and incomparable filigree delicacy. This is a wine of exceptionally high quality. 5.5-8.0%. Enjoy with strong cheese and any kind of dessert.

Our Price: 34.97

15% off of 12 bottles or more of wine
