Friday's Lineup

Greetings!

Tomorrow we welcome New Vintage Wines and Martin Ulisse Imports, bringing us unique Italian wines from the Puglian region.  These wines are interesting regional examples that stray from the beaten path of typical international varietals; even the Chardonnay has character not found in France or California.  We will taste two whites and two reds.  See you there!

These emails are archived on the website; they can be accessed through the "current and past newsletters" link at www.eastendwinesatx.com. The weekly wine update is also tweeted, so if you are interested, you can follow us through the link below.

Cheers,

Friday Night Tasting Lineup

2006 Resta Martina Bianco

60 % Verdeca, 40% Bianco d'Alessano Blend. Nice and easy, with a mineral finish. Noticeable low acid. Saline/sea quality and rather light, with some noticeable flavor of apricot jam or candied apricots. "It has an intense floral aroma reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc. Martina has fresh flavors of wildflower and banana in a soft and harmonic body. Soft acidic accents make it refreshing." An old favorite in the shop, and a great example of these old varieties.

Our Price: 12.57

2009 Mocavero Chardonnay

"This is a fabulous example of single varietal Chardonnay from a warm climate area on the Salento peninsula. The cool breeze flows in from the Adriatic and keeps the acidity up in the fruit maintaining the freshness and balance. Aromas of peach, green fruit and citrus lead to an elegant palate cut by sappy acidity, excellent for fish dishes!" Light starters, seafood and fish, excellent as an aperitif. Very clean Italian Chardonnay from Puglia, very fun.

Our Price: 14.57

2004 Resta Martina Salice Salentino

Salice Salentino is a traditional blend of 80% Negroamaro and 20% Malvasia Nera. It has aromas of berry jam and ripe plum, all with delicate spicy notes. The acidity in this wine makes it zippy with well-balanced tannins. Good structure and concentration brings elegance and a smooth mouth feel. Dark berries and a spice component, a little smoky minerality. Salice Salentino is the famous blend of these two grapes in Puglia. Goes great with hard cheeses, game, lamb, and pasta with meat sauces. Great for food because of the natural acidity.

Our Price: 17.57

2006 Mocavero Primitivo

A close relative of the Zinfandel grape, Primitivo is the star of Puglia. The Mocavero Primitivo Salento offers a deep red color with an intense bouquet of jam and fruits. The flavors are rich with tobacco, jammy blackberry and leather. The finish is long and develops rich flavors of roasted chocolate. The Salento area includes the Lecce, Brindisi and Taranto districts. 35 year old vines. A noble accompaniment to roast meat, wild fowl and mature cheese.
