Wednesday's Lineup

Greetings!

Tomorrow we welcome Hillary Cline of Cline Cellars for a special Wednesday night tasting! From their website - Since 2000, Cline Cellars farms the Green String way - naturally and sustainably and avoid chemical pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers that are generally used in everyday farming. We believe we utilize the most efficient methods towards retaining healthy vineyards by employing the use of organic cover crops, compost teas, crushed volcanic rock and oyster shell, natural mined sulfur and sheep grazing.  The wines featured are listed below.  See you there!

Wednesday Night Tasting Lineup

2011 Cline  Mourvèdre Rosé

Pleasant fruit on the nose, plum, pomegranate and cherry dominate, balanced by a delicate hint of sweet anise. This refreshing rosé is made from Mourvèdre grown on our historic Oakley ranch in Contra Costa county. In the wonderful tradition of rosés found in France and Spain, this wine served slightly chilled is perfect on its own, is delightful at a picnic at the beach and marries extremely well with food. Mourvèdre is a rare grape in California and we produce four distinct bottlings, including this lovely Rosé with hints of pomegranate, cherry and plum. In the wonderful tradition of rosés found in Portugal, Spain, Italy and France, this wine served well-chilled is perfect on its own, is refreshing at a beach picnic and marries extremely well with food such as chicken Provencal, salmon or a Teriyaki dish.

2009/2010 Cline Cool Climate Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast

Bright red fruit characteristics emerge along with deep color, lush body, touches of vanilla and spearmint followed by delicate strawberry flavor. This is a food-friendly wonder child that can stand up to lamb or roast beef yet won't overpower lighter fish or pasta dishes. A nice companion to roast beef and chicken, grilled salmon or a cherry tart. - A hold clipped, parsimonious and firm, with berry, mineral, cedar and sage. Full-bodied, with a minerally corner on a finish. Drink now by 2022. 5,300 cases made. (09 - WS - James Laube) "It would be interesting to insert the 2010 Pinot Noir Cool Climate (100% Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir) in a blind tasting against more expensive domestic Pinots or French Burgundies. A dark ruby color is followed by notions of underbrush, loamy soil, red cherries and spice. Medium-bodied and surprisingly elegant with more flavor and intensity than one would expect at this price." -Robert M. Parker, Jr.

2009 Cline Ancient Vines Carignane

Carignane holds the distinction of being one of the most widely planted red grapes in France. It is also grown abundantly in Italy, Spain, Algeria and Israel and was once the most planted varietal in the new world. It has traditionally been used as a blending grape because of its favorable yields, excellent acidity and big tannins. Cline Cellars is one of a few wineries to vinify this varietal. Dark ruby in color, the 2009 Ancient Vines Carignane offers flavors of dark berries and cherry with hints of spice. It's a perfect match for grilled meats, lamb dishes, meatloaf or figs and fig sauces. "Dark ruby in color, the '09 Ancient Vines Carignane offers flavors of dark berries and cherry with hints of spice. It is both balanced and harmonious, exhibiting firm structure, ripe tannins and plush fruit." Tasting Room.

2010 Cline Ancient Vines Mourvèdre

Hints of Eucalyptus on the nose, distinct chocolate characteristics and a luscious deep plum flavor. Vinegeek.com - "This wine starts with dark fruit, cocoa powder (like when you dump a packet of Swiss Miss in a cup and that little mushroom cloud of cocoa dust erupts) and a savory/meaty/smoky quality on the nose. Nice. More juicy dark fruit flavors (dark cherry mainly) on the palate, with a latte-like creaminess and a faintly herbal note. The mouthfeel is slightly sappy and the tannins are unobtrusive, but without leaving the wine feeling flabby and unstructured." Our Ancient Vines Mourvèdre offers a hint of Eucalyptus on the nose, distinct chocolate characteristics and a luscious deep plum flavor. This scrumptious and unusually delightful wine has a substantial mouth-feel followed by soft tannins. Try this wine with grilled lamb, wild mushroom ragout, duck confit or peppercorn crusted beef tenderloin. Check out the recipes at www.clinecellars.com/haveittonight.
