Weekly Wine Update
Friday's Lineup

Greetings!

We all know Oregon is home to some stellar wineries.  Unfortunately, that fruit tends to be expensive, especially in the Willamette Valley.  That is why we are super excited to sell the wines of Left Coast Winery here in the shop.  They rock and will not break the bank!  Tomorrow we will taste three wines from Left Coast, as well as a wonderful dry Gewurztraminer from Amity Cellars.  See you there!

These emails are archived on the website; they can be accessed through the "current and past newsletters" link at www.eastendwinesatx.com. The weekly wine update is also tweeted, so if you are interested, you can follow us through the link below.

Cheers,

Friday Night Tasting Lineup

2009 Left Coast - 09 Pinot Gris

Winemaker - "This racy little number flirts with just a hint of sweetness, and alluring notes of tropical fruits and flowers. Serve this Pinot Gris with spicy Asian or Indian fare." 90 WS - ""Broad and fulsome, this wine's texture is a bit loose and juicy, but the pear flavors are irresistible. It has the phenolic stuffing to match herb-roasted chicken." Intl Wine of the Month Club - "Brightly robed, highly aromatic, and vibrant from start to finish, Left Coast's Pinot Gris begins its seduction with a cornucopia of enticing aromas: quince, kiwi, Meyer lemon, and lime just for starters. On the palate, the 2009 The Orchards Pinot Gris simply explodes with flavor.  Lemongrass, white peach, and quince, infused collectively with a soft subtle minerality, delight the tongue and tantalize the gullet as it begs for more.  Add to this graceful repertoire a polished, wonderfully crisp finish that hints of fresh ginger, kiwi, and lime."

Our Price: 17.57

2008 Amity Dry Gewurztraminer

This traditional golden Gewurztraminer is rich, fruit-forward, and intense, with flavors of lychee, Asian pear, and fresh green herbs. Though labeled as dry, this wine offers a bright sweetness through complex fruit flavors, and will perfectly calm the heat of spicy Thai food. - Portland Monthly. Amity Vineyards is located in Yamhill County, Oregon just 7 miles from McMinnville. Rated #11 of Oregon's top 50 White Wines and Best Buy- Portland Monthly, Sept 2011. This wine is similar to a traditional Alsatian Dry Gewürztraminer. On the palate it exhibits flavors of Asian Pear and lychee. Pairs exceptionally well with spicy foods.

Our Price: 20.97

2008 Left Coast Cali's Pinot Noir

Left Coast Cellars estate - situated on the 45th parallel - consists of 306 acres, 100 of which are devoted to the cultivation of grapes. Planting on varying soils, elevations and slopes contribute to the complexities and subtleties of our wines. - 92 points "Lithe, supple and graceful, brimming with blueberry, currant, coffee and wet earth flavors, lingering easily on the medium-bodied, open-texture finish. Drink now through 2018. Tasted twice with consistent notes."- Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator (Oct. 2011). Decanted for one hour... smooth and spectacular. Not as much expression of terroir as you'll get in the single-vineyard Oregon Pinots, but perfectly balanced. Could drink this guy all day. Says another - This winery is doing amazing things at this price point and independent of their price point. Please don't drink or buy their wine. I want it to stay delicious and inexpensive!

Our Price: 18.97

2006 Left Coast Latitude 45 Pinot Noir

Winemaker - "Boldly unapologetic, the 2006 Latitude 45 really flaunts the intense characteristics of this vineyard block. Bordering on jammy, the nose is profuse in notes of Bing cherry, raspberry and cranberry backed with a sense of candied angelica and cardamom seed. Flavors of sweet maple smoked bacon, dark chocolate, mission fig, anise and Asian spices compliment the berry driven palate. Present but ever so smooth, the tannins and the full body of this wine make for an enticing drinker capable of a bit of aging. This wine begs for barbeque and smoked meats." This vineyard is directly intersected by the 45th parallel, it is only 12 acres and sits right next to a spring fed lake. The wine shows big raspberry and cherry aromas; this is a very showy wine, almost a little jammy and smoky, the palate is red fruits and spice, the finish is lingering with very smooth, soft tannins.
