Friday's Lineup

Greetings!

Friday we welcome Virtuoso Selections who will present a few organic wines from Chile, crafted by renown winemaker Alvaro Espinoza of GEO Wines.  GEO Wines was formed 9 years ago with the intention of providing technical and commercial assistance to a select number of great wineries that have a growing potential. They focus on organic wines, hence all of these wines are from organic fruit.  We will have two Chards, a Cab, and a Syrah to taste.  More details available below.  See you there!

Friday Night Tasting Lineup

2010 Rayun Chardonnay

From Chilean organic wine maker Alvaro Espinoza. Best fresh fruit from growers who cannot bottle their own wines, at super low prices. Gets more rich with age, but this is at a very fresh, bright, good summertime choice style. Great as an aperitif, & has the acid to go with lots of light foods, & can cut into something that gives you some fat on the palate. Home run with fish & salads, grilled chicken, lighter pork dishes. Win.

Our Price: 9.97

2010 Cucao Chardonnay

A. E. personally selects grapes from growers who either farm organically or as naturally as possible. Cucao is located in the Casablanca Valley, two hours to the West of Santiago. Hand-picked grapes and specially selected local yeasts are used; thereafter half of the wine is held for six months in stainless steel; the other half in medium-toast French and American oak. Aromas of lemon and peach on the nose, smooth melon on the palate. This is a well-balanced medium-bodied chardonnay that's not too oaky or buttery like so many chardonnays in this price range. It's aromatic and crisp with hints of green apple.  Fresh and fruity, this Chilean Chardonnay pairs well with light fare like salads and grilled vegetables.

Our Price: 11.57

2009 Rayun Cabernet Sauvignon

In the Mapudungun language of the Chilean Mapuche natives, Rayun means "to bloom". These wines will bloom on your palate. The Varietal range offers delightful fresh and fruit driven wines. In order to preserve these characteristics, these wines have no oak aging and no residual sugar. The grapes were harvested at optimal maturity from old vineyards. After crushing, 50% of the must went through a cold maceration process for three days. The fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperature for 7-8 days. Once this was completed, it remained on the skins for further 4-5 days. Malolactic fermentation took place naturally in stainless steel tanks which were also temperature controlled.

Our Price: 9.97

2009 Chono Syrah Elqui Valley

Intense ruby red colour and a spicy nose with berries, black fruit and hints of tar. The structure is very well balanced with the softness of the tannins. Its intense fruitiness is very well married with the oak. An elegant wine with a unique personality. Semi-arid climate, moderated by a cooling breeze from the Pacific Ocean, provides a great environment for a cold weather Syrah.  This region is known for having one of the clearest skies in the world, which brings a very intense luminosity during the day, helping the vines on a more efficient photosynthetic process.
