This Friday we welcome Kyllan Tartarella of Gerard Bertrand, one of Southern France's premier wineries.  Gerard Bertrand represents some of the most widely respected appellations in the Languedoc; we will be tasting their Corbieres, Minervois, Le'Hospitalet blend, and a bubbly from Limoux.

Also available to taste will be the new Black Port from Quinta do Noval in preparation for Black Friday, and, hopefully some cooler weather!  Notes available for all wines tasted below.  See you Friday!

Gerard Bertrand Cremant de Limoux - 2009

Great price, with nice tart acidity. "The bubbles are tiny and very elegant. Its aromas are very fruity with a hint of biscuits, hazelnuts and flowers. This wine is elegantly balanced, complex and well-structured with a long and crisp mineral finish. The fermentation kicks off in the stainless steel vats in the same way we would vinify the still white wines.  We will follow the requirements of the méthode champenoise and then disgorge with a liqueurd'expédition. This 70% Chardonnay Crémant de Limoux Brings rich and elegant fruity aromas." - Gerard Bertrand.

Our Price: 14.57

Gerard Bertrand Corbieres - 2009

"A rich and concentrated robe. Complex black fruit aromas are present thanks to ideal grape ripening. A full and elegant wine, with a good structure and pleasant tannins. Decant and discover with French cuisine or roasted meat." - Bertrand. Classic Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre. Peppercorn, gamy.

Our Price: 13.57

Gerard Bertrand Minervois - 2008

"The nose is loaded with garrigue aromas, mostly rosemary and dried bay leaf, lifted by vibrant black cherry and black berry jam. Licorice and spice unfold in the chewy mouth, with a decadent milk chocolate infused finish." -WE. The Minervois is one of the most renowned Appellations in the South of France, characterized by hilly landscapes. Deep red color. Complex notes & blackberries & cocoa. Elegant, round & full bodied with rich aromas of ripe plums & roasted coffee. This well balanced wine will age gracefully.

Our Price: 13.57

Gerard Bertrand Le'Hospitalet - 2009

Sweet ripe fruit nose with florals, blueberry jam and white chocolate. Full bodied and jammy palate with a smooth stream of intense fruit. Blueberry and forest fruits with some oak, a touch of caramel and herbs. Long warm finish. Young - almost primary - fruit-forward jam action. Decanter - "Mature savoury elements and cassis on the nose. Amazingly intense black jammy fruit palate. Powerful tannins with great finesse."

Our Price: 17.97

ALSO - Quinta DO Noval Black Port

Big and black and rich. Its not just a Ruby Reserve style its also got a huge chockablock of LBV is what I am told. And it spends two years in barrel. Its fresh, juicy but not with too much sugar. This is to hit the new drinkers market -- fresh, powerful, but not too sweet. Nose: dried black cherry, dried cranberry, and Boysenberry jam with peppercorn, new leather, dark chocolate, and espresso beans. Full body on the moderately sweet palate: more dried black cherry and dried cranberry with Boysenberry jam, crushed blueberry, peppercorn, mocha, leather, and black tea. Medium acidity. Moderate tannins. Lingering berry skin, leather, and black tea on the long finish. Great balance and complexity. Perfect pairing for chocolate-based desserts.

Our Price: 20.57
