Friday Night Tasting Lineup

Mapema Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Intense lemon grass nose; lemon grass, lime, tart grapefruit palate; medium finish. This is simply delicious and drinks well above its price point. Grapefruit, some apricot, and a very pretty darker green/gold color. Good lift and a refreshing finish. Great example of Argentina Sauvignon Blanc. "Pale color. Musky grapefruit, lemon and tarragon aromas. Juicy, supple and fairly intense, with decent grip to its citrus and floral flavors. Finishes with a late note of grapefruit peel." Steve Tanzer

Our Price: 13.57

La Posta Cocina Tinto 2009

Classic Mendoza Malbec! Intense aromas of red rose petals and red berry fruits and a touch of smokiness fill the nose. Enjoy violet, berry, and mocha flavors on the palate with just a hint of blueberry. Smooth, almost lush mouth feel with a hint of chocolate on the finish. Pizza, grilled pork chops (or brats) and spicy Latin or Asian dishes are among many suitable companions. 20% Bonarda, 60% Malbec, 20% Syrah. Wine Advocate - "This blend impresses you right from the start. Aromas of red cherries and raspberries are infused with mocha and spice hints that give up the secret for what's about to come. Your first sip washes broadly across your palate like a flood of sweet, fresh fruit and the viscous mouthfeel keeps the flavors lingering for a while. The hints of baking spice and some oak keep the fruit flavors fresh and lively. This is a wine that you'll want to stack up in your wine rack (or closet) for any occasion. Great all by itself or with all your favorite red wine foods like burgers, ribs, lamb chops, and even pizza."

Our Price: 14.97

Mendel Malbec 2008

RP - "... it reveals a lovely nose of Asian spices, incense, lavender, black cherry, and black raspberry. Supple, ripe, and round on the palate with medium- to full-body, layered fruit, and excellent balance..." Matt Kramer's "Wines of the Year", Wine Spectator, 2011 - "The "surprise" of Mendel Malbec is its detailed austerity, a feature rare in Malbecs in Argentina. The flavor is as substantial as Argentina's best... The 2008 vintage made some exceptional wines in Mendoza, including this one-- vibrant yet restrained, polished and detailed, with a discernible minerality. This is a Malbec for those for whom classified-growth Bordeaux is the benchmark. It's that refined-- and that good."

Our Price: 28.57

Benmarco Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
R.P. Wine Advocate: "Blended with 5% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc; spicy, fragrant, complex; excellent length." And, according to Stephen Tanzer: "Dark ruby-red. Black fruits, licorice and lots of spicy oak on the nose. Concentrated, lush and smooth but not overly fat or rich. Good supple texture to its chewy flavors of blueberry, licorice and oak. Finishes with slightly edgy oak-driven tannins and good length." (Jan/Feb 11) "Full of currants, with an underlying toasty oak component framing these as well as subtly savory herbaceous aromas, flavors show very tasty, fully ripe fruit, but not ripe to the point of losing its distinctive Cabernet character." (Joe Manekin, K&L)
