Weekly Wine Update
Friday's Lineup

Greetings!

This Friday we will taste four wines out of Argentina brought to us by the small Texas distributor Global Wines South Texas.  Global Wines was founded in 2001 and restricts its portfolio to around 100 labels. Territory owners manage their own distribution business. Their primary focus has been on South American wines.

These emails are archived on the website; they can be accessed through the "current and past newsletters" link at www.eastendwinesatx.com. The weekly wine update is also tweeted, so if you are interested, you can follow us through the link below.

Cheers,

Friday Night Tasting Lineup

2009 Sur de Los Andes Torrontes

Cafayate, Salta, N. Argentina - Torrontés is to Argentina's white wines what Malbec is to its reds: a specialty much appreciated within the country and also growing international popularity. Peachy / stonefruit - apricot nose. A very aromatic grape, originating as a cross of Mission and Muscat of Alexandria. It's a pretty exotic varietal, offering a mix of ripe fruit and floral scents - easy drinking. Nice lemon & lime citrus note. Attention to detail in the winemaking makes this a high quality example, as opposed to the bitter or boozy ones.

Our Price: 13.57

2007 Familia Cecchin Malbec Essencias de la Tierra

Maipu, Argentina... SE of Mendoza. Organic. A little licorice & dark chocolate on the nose.  Medium bodied, high altitude, small production, plum & dark berry. Bust out the BBQ. Farming grapes for 100 years with horse tilled fields. Winery started in 1959. Pretty inky for a thin-skinned varietal - plummy. Softer & less tannic than the French versions out of Cahors, with smaller berries in Argentina.

Our Price: 12.97

2008 Sur de Los Andes Bonarda

Tangy palate, pretty big ripe nose. Juicy acids. Very well made, liked this the best of the five red wines we were shown on October 19, 2010. Wine style fresh and vibrant aromas of red fruits including cherry and blackberry with a hint of mineral that adds complexity. You should drink young within the next 3 years. Racking a tank with staves American and French oak for 30 days in which malolactic fermentation is carried out at 100%. Known as Douce Noire in France, which led to confusion with Dolcetto (Dolce Nero) in Italy, Charbono in CA. Originated in the Savoie region of France. It is the second most commonly grown varietal in Argentina.

Our Price: 13.57

2009 Fingerprints Syrah 09

TerraSur - Mendoza, Argentina. It is fruit and spicy in nose, with hints of eucalyptus and wood, vanilla, tobacco, nutmeg and licorice descriptors. In mouth its flavor is strong and spicy, very typical of Syrah grape, with smooth and rounded tannins, and a long, lingering aftertaste. Dark skinned grape that produces powerful wines. Despite the romantic fable about the Iranian city of Shiraz, genetics find Syrah to be a cross of Dureza & Mondeuse Blanche, from Southeastern France. Enjoy it young for the nice acidity, red & blueberry fruit, and softer tannins. Plantings are increasing in Argentina and there are some Malbec - Syrah blends to keep an eye out for...

Our Price: 13.97
