Trimbach Pinot Blanc 2007 - $15.27 - Juicy, clean white grape. Mineral. Nice richness, broad, tasty. 70% Auxerrois. In Alsace, there are two different grape varities to produce Pinot Blanc. Auxerrois is very juicy and always ripe. It brings fruitiness and volume to the wine. Pinot Blanc, drier and more acidic, brings freshness and backbone to the blend. According to the Wine Spectator: "Subtle pear and lemon zest flavors are layered with earth and brine in this more traditionally styled Pinot Blanc. Bright acidity leads to a clean, fresh finish. Drink now." Trimbach is the standard-bearer in the region for tightly wound, focused and truly dry wines. This is a great food wine from a great producer, especially good to see as Alsace is ceasing to be as uniformly dry versions of white wines.
Trimbach Gewurtztraminer 2007 - $22.27 - Gingerbready & hard spice, spritz, rich. The money is right. Full, round. Tanzer - "Good pale, bright yellow. Highly expressive aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, lichee and cured meats. Round, ripe and pure, with generous, pliant fruit of noteworthy sweetness. Offers lovely varietal character and balancing acidity. Not especially complex or long, but finishes without phenolic bitterness, which is rare for a house's basic gewurztraminer. This is a major cash-flow item for Trimbach, as about 140,000 bottles were made." This is a great example of what the ripe Gewurztraminer from the rain shadow of the Vosges mountains can attain in richness and body with the long autumn hang-time.
Lamarque Grande Cabanes Rose 2010 - $14.77 - This rosé is obtained by "saignée" or bleeding of the red varieties, Syrah and Grenache, with 6 to 12 hours of skin contact to extract color. Fermentation is at controlled temperatures for approximately 15 days from free-run juice only. Six weeks of lees aging gives the wine its roundness and length. Complex with black currant and raspberry aromas. Dry, refreshing and nicely balanced. Perfect as an aperitif thanks to its fruit and freshness. This rosé is not only a "sipping" rosé but can go perfectly with salads, pork and grilled meat. Serve lightly chilled. We have been having a great time with this very popular rosé, one of our favorites as well. Dry, with bright & juicy acids, great berry fruit, elegant, with enough backbone to be a great wine for food - the producer's Syrah knowledge really comes to the fore in this bottle.
Château de la Chaize Brouilly 2008 - $15.77 - Chateau de La Chaize Brouilly 2008 - The wine has greater body and a longer life than most Brouilly. Light and fragrant, deep purple in color, it is full of the typical berry-like flavors that are hallmarks of the best Brouilly. The country's best known Brouilly - the most elegant of wines from the largest of the ten individual vineyard appellations in the Beaujolais district, producing the finest Beaujolais. This magnificent estate designed in 1676 by the architects of Versailles (Mansart & Le Notre) is an absolute showplace - magnificently tended vineyards, parks, gardens and a stunning chateau, the largest in Beaujolais. Owned by the Marquise de Roussy de Sales, producing this Grand Cru estate bottled Brouilly. We really enjoy this producer, and have had a good time with this wine since we opened the shop. After we finish the 08, we will be on to the classic 09 vintage.

Pre-sell - Trimbach Pinot Gris Gold Personnelle 2001 - $35.97 - Country: France Region: Alsace. Trimbach grows some of its best Pinot Gris grapes in the Osterberg Grand Cru, located in the heart of Alsace, above the winery in Ribeauville. The soil here is stony argilo-calcaire limestone over a base of sandstone. Pinot Gris Reserve Personnelle is made only in exceptionally fine vintages from grapes approaching "late harvest" ripeness. 100% Pinot Gris.
Dry. Grapes are picked as late as possible in order to achieve maximum ripeness which, in turn, gives optimum depth of flavor and complexity. The grapes are picked by hand, close to the vendanges tardives "late harvest" level, and pressed gently in a pneumatic press. The juice runs into the cellar by gravity and clarifies naturally prior to fermentation. The juice ferments in stainless steel at controlled temperature for 2-3 weeks. The wine is not oak-aged, as the Trimbachs believe that wood adds nothing to their wines, the salient characteristics of which are extreme purity and concentrated fruit. Bottling is done early to preserve freshness and the wines are bottle-aged before release.
Pale gold with a rich and fragrant nose; apricot, ripe pear and mango with a touch of botrytis. Full-bodied with very ripe fruits in the palate. Very charming, meaty, rich, and good acidity.
12 to 15 years aging potential, from now. Alc.: 13.0% TA: 6.8 g/L RS: 9.0 g/L
Excellent wine to be matched with creamy sauces and mushrooms. Great with seafood and white meats, veal, poultry, and chicken in white wine sauces. Pinot Gris is one of the few wines able to perfectly match fusion cuisine and Asian flavors.
Since 1626, the Trimbach family has been promoting the history, exceptional terroirs and fine wines of Alsace. Maison Trimbach is located in Ribeauvillé, where today three generations work closely together. Day-to-day operations are handled personally by brothers Pierre and Jean Trimbach, representing the 12th generation. Bernard and Hubert Trimbach, the 11th generation (father and uncle, respectively, to Pierre and Jean) remain integrally involved. Anne, the eldest of the 13th generation, has just joined the family business.
The Trimbachs have a purist vision. Across 12 generations, the family has always produced wines that are structured, long-lived, fruity, elegant and balanced: the celebrated Trimbach style. Bottles remain in the cellar for several years before reaching the marketplace, ensuring the wines are both ready to drink upon release but also hold great aging potential.
