We're Back!

Tomorrow we will taste four wines from Italy; a Prosecco, a white blend, and two reds.  The first three are great summer options and the Rosso di Montalcino is a little more serious.  Come on in and see us!

Next week we will continue with the weekly wine update now that Sam is back from vacation.

See you Tomorrow!

2010 Paladin Pralis

Crisp & medium-bodied dry white. Venezie IGT in Veneto, Italy. Elegant Pinot Bianco, rich Tai (the new name for Tocai Friuliano), & some body from Manzoni bianco (Riesling Renano X Pinot Bianco) grapes. Tropical fruit and mineral, green almond. Zippy, cool melon, stone, softened a bit by residual sugar. Stone fruit on the palate. Refreshing. Very fine, crisp lemony acid, structured. Great with fish, ham & cold cuts. Drink it young & not too cold. Great with fish, can handle garlic. avoid cheeses, go with softer one if you insist.

Our Price: 10.97

NV Canaletto Prosecco

The Venetian aperitif of choice in the 19th century. Prosecco produces wines that are light, with orchard tree fruit & bright acidity, giving a light lemon / grapefruit character. A little residual sugar is usually left in or added at dosage to plump the wines up a bit. This wine has green apple and herb notes, plus a little wisteria & acacia on the nose, with a little sweetness, and the classic "toast" of sparkling wines that comes from contact with the yeasts as the wines undergo a secondary fermentation in the bottle to produce the bubbles. There is some mineral present, and for the style, this wine has a long finish. Impressive but easy-going.

2010 Paladin Salbanello

Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon in rich & harmonious blend, good, with juicy acid, flashy & new world stylings. Some earthiness along with red fruit on the nose. More modern. Tasty, with currants & berries. This was a strong buy, made even more attractive by the low cost to us and low price to you. A tasty wine from a good producer in the Veneto, in the venezie IGT, next to the border with Friuli. Svelte & pleasing, a lot of wine for the money. Drinking now. From calcareous clay soil. Aged in stainless steel before release. Anti-Pasti. Versatile - try it cooled with spicy Indian food. Gorgonzola Dolce.

2005 La Gerla Rosso di Montalcino

Very nice bottle of wine. Black Cherry fruit with tobacco and a little bit of smoke. Medium bodied, med + acid, med- tannins. Our Rosso is obtained by de-classing wine that was destined to become Brunello and had therefore met all the severe rules. It presents fresh and fragrant notes typical of high quality young wines, with a lot of fruit that melts into notes of berries and sweet violet. The wine has made in stainless steel.  For $22, it's not bad.  Our price is 10% less. It has nice balance and a lot of fruit with nice tannins and finish. Loose grape pressing; temperature controlled fermentation; 2 rackings every year; slow continuous flow bottling in sterilized conditions. This has a nice nose, displaying plum jam and hints of passion fruit and flowers. Medium-bodied, with intense, focused fruit and a fresh finish.
