Friday's Lineup

Greetings!

Now that the weather is warming up, we thought it would be great to break out some wines perfect for hanging out in the backyard on a springtime afternoon or a picnic with Colonel Sanders. This Friday, we will taste an Alsatian white, a Southern French white, a Southern French rosé, and a 2009 Cru Beaujolais.  See Sam's tasting notes below.

See you there!

Cheers,

Matt and Sam

2009 Barth René Pinot Gris 09

Very, very good wines from this producer. Michel Fonné is an oenologist who took over the winemakeing from his uncle René Barth in 1989, starting his own company in 1997. Stopped sharing grapes with the coop in 2001. Always a great food wine, in the laser clean style of the Alsace, with bright acidity. There is sometimes a touch of sweetness on the finish, but I think this wine is marvelously balanced. There is always a nice richness from the amount of time that the wines get to ripen in the rain shadow of the Vosges mountains. Pretty lush fruit, again, balanced and kept in check by the acidity and mineral that are trademarks of the wine. Pairs with everything from quiche to rich cheese to spicy charcuterie to liver pâtés. Makes a great hostess gift.

2009 Tariquet C-d-Gascogne Blanc

Sustainable, held in isothermal tanks and bottled to order. Fresh, making for a light & refreshing wine. Medium-bodied. Fruit forward. Floral nose from Gascony's mild climate, with lime & lemon citrus and a hint of more exotic tropical fruit on the palate, green apple, pear, & peach. Grassy note & mineral. Finish carried by bright acidity & light spiciness. Great clean & simple patio aperitif. Goes well with fondue, or shellfish, mussels. Great balance, and the price is right.

2009 Domaine Vidalere Harmonie CDG Rosé

Made from Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tannat. Blended from grapes coming from old vines and young vines, with the grapes from the older vines going through a pre-fermentation maceration, while the grapes from younger vines are directly pressed. Strawberry & currant, with darker fruits as well on the expressive nose. Rounded out by aromas of blackberry jam, and a bouquet of toasty and spicy notes. Palate is quite smooth and balanced, with a full fruity juicy cherry flavor that finishes dry. There are some nice toasty notes there as well.

Our Price: 11.57

2009 Domaine de Colette Régnié Vielles Vignes

Terrific.Great vintage, from the newest of the Cru Beaujolais. From the village of Lantignié & owners Jacky & Evelyne Gauthier. Right on the border with Morgon. Soils are worked organically. Green harvest to concentrate grapes. Hand harvested after that, with wine made from only healthy clusters. Candied fruit nose, with a little bit of violet floral and licorice notes. Bright acid & red fruit on the rich palate. Strawberry & sweet cherry fruit. Give it a light chill. Fruity & rich, with great spice & herb notes. Tannins and twist of tart acidity on the finish make this a very nice Beaujolais.
