Greetings!

Here at East End Wines, we scour the market for cool and interesting wines; varietals, producers, and regions that you don't see in your average retail environment.  This Friday, we will showcase wines from two small distributors whose portfolio not only fit these guidelines, but are value priced as well!  Martin-Ulisse and Lerin wines are continually finding homes on our shelves due to their quality and uniqueness.  It is also worth noting that the Cava to be tasted sold out within the first hour or so of the Christmas Eve tasting, so we are featuring it again for those of you who missed out :)

See you there!

Cheers,

Matt and Sam

Resta Martina Bianco 06

Verdeca, Bianco d'Alessano Blend. Nice and easy, with a mineral finish. Noticeable low acid. Saline/sea quality and rather light, with some noticeable flavor of apricot jam or candied apricots. "Martina is a white blend of 60% Verdeca and 40% Alessano White. It has an intense floral aroma reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc. Martina has fresh flavors of wildflower and banana in a soft and harmonic body. Soft acidic accents make it refreshing."

Mocavero Chardonnay 09

"This is a fabulous example of single varietal Chardonnay from a warm climate area on the Salento peninsula. The cool breeze flows in from the Adriatic and keeps the acidity up in the fruit maintaining the freshness and balance. Aromas of peach, green fruit and citrus lead to an elegant palate cut by sappy acidity, excellent for fish dishes!" The harvest began one week later than in 2008 in order to give the grapes more time to mature. "The harvest this year is marche di leopardo," reported winemaker Francesco Mocavero of Mocavero Winery, "which means 'the spots of the leopard.' It is a local saying that means that there are some areas yielding interesting, good-quality grapes, and there are others that are not."

Oltis Reserve Malbec Marie NV

"Reserve Marie", from the Cahors in SW France - from 02, 04, 05 vintages from a "Barrique Perpetuelle" - like a Sherry Solera system. Malbec is "The Black Wine of Cahors," famous for inky color and robust tannins. Older vintages bring secondary development, more evolved, and softened tannins, youngest has more fruit forward black & red fruit & bright acids & freshness. From the Roman name for the river Lot which traverses Cahors. Malbec is thin skinned & needs more heat & sun to get ripe than Cab or Merlot, which is why it does well in warmer areas. Plum!
