A Place to Share Books That Have Changed, and Inspired Our Lives | |
PAVE received an advance copy of Knowing Jesse: A Mother's Story of Grief, Grace and Everyday Bliss (on sale September 7th). Taking a deep breath bittersweet tears easily come to the surface weeks after this book was consumed during free moments....
"I am able to choose, and I choose the package; miracles, magic, and art.
I choose to reject the teachers of fear and humiliation. I chose Jesse, the one who came wrapped in a beautiful package, and when I looked inside, there was no disappointment:
instead I found a teacher of unconditional love, the one truth embedded in every religion."

| Greetings! | Thank you for being a part of the change that continues at PAVE by signing-up to receive the second e-newsletter edition of the Pipeline. We hope the articles in this issue will inform, assist, support and deliver timely resources for you, your loved ones and anyone else in your life. We realize technology is not accessible by all so if you and/or a family you know still needs a print version, please call the office. We will gladly add them to our mailing list. |
| Tran·si·tion | | According to dictionary.com as a noun it means "movement, passage, or change from one position, state, stage, subject, concept, etc., to another; change: the transition from adolescence to adulthood." As you can see the PAVE headquarters went through a much needed transition of its own this summer. Whether external and/or internal the process for transition is central to whatever type that may face you and/or your family. Obviously our summer make-over was welcome and we are very grateful to the City of Tacoma for an incredible process! The work teams were professional, we got to make choices on colors, they asked for our input along the way, they kept us informed and we deeply appreciate the final result. As Marian Wright Edelman said,
"If you don't like the way the world is, you change it.
You have an obligation to change it. You just do it one step at a time."

Healthcare Transitions: A Success Story
A Personal Story by Daman Wandke | My name is Daman Wandke and I am a junior at Western Washington University. I have Cerebral Palsy, which affects your motor skills and the messages that go to and from your brain to tell your body what you want it to do. In my transition to college, I learned a lot about managing my own healthcare. Thanks to my parents' hard work and dedication, they made sure that I got the right physical therapy and speech therapy. My parents taught me how to be an advocate at a young age, which helped a lot.

QUESTION: I am a foster parent who just had a child placed with us from another district. This child was receiving special education services and the IEP is current. I called our District and asked them the procedure for enrolling him in school. I was told that they would have to initiate a new evaluation and decided if he was eligible for services in our District before he could be enrolled in school. Since this could take months, what can I do now?
