Propel Careers Events and Plans for 2011

We are planning a number of events for 2011 that will be focused on increasing knowledge and connections for individuals in the Propel network.  Our aim is to be a hub of life science career resources and to create value for everyone who participates in our events.  We have a full calendar for 2011 which will include:

  • Propel Careers Signature Networking Events: These events offer a casual, relaxed, and professional atmosphere, and include cocktail receptions, panel discussions, and networking.  We highlight hot topics and emerging trends in specific life science industry sectors and bring in high impact speakers who provide their insights and always draw a crowd
  • Career Matchmaking Events: Beginning in February 2010 we will spotlight companies that are doing outstanding work in the life sciences, and bring them together with talented individuals seeking to connect with employers.  These events will be focused on internships and full-time roles, and making connections in an informal and personal manner.  Stay tuned for more details.
  • Year-long Seminar Series on Career Paths in Life Sciences: We are partnering with MassBio and MassBioEd on a seminar series targeted to graduate students and post doctoral fellows, intended to provide "deep dives" into specific career paths that are available for individuals with advanced degrees.  Each seminar will include a panel discussion with in-person perspectives on various careers and is intended to increase awareness of the many career paths that exist in the life sciences, including a mix of research and corporate careers.  These will be evening seminars with refreshments and (of course) networking.  We will kick off this program at the MassBio Offices in Cambridge on January 26, 2010.

Webinar Series

In response to numerous requests for information and resources, we will also be launching a webinar series to address topics such as "understanding drug development", "structure of life science companies", "understanding the corporate recruiting process", "tailoring a resume for a the transition from academia to industry", "identifying transferable skills for life sciences companies", and "transitioning from the bench to business".

Career Coaching

Based upon feedback in 2010, we will be expanding resume review, critique and revision services.  This will also include cover letter review, critique, and revision as well as informational interview and job interview preparation.  These services are provided on a one-on-one basis to individuals looking for additional and/or focused guidance in these areas.  To learn more, please contact Lauren Celano at Lauren@propelcareers.com
