Lauren Celano's Blog Post - 6 Tips for IP Licensing

Lauren recently wrote a blog post for The Capital Network's Life Sciences breakfast on October 26th 2010, titled: "Opportunities, Challenges and Traps for the Unwary".  This breakfast event highlighted how early stage life sciences companies can negotiate and leverage interests in their Intellectual Property (IP).  A few of the takeaways were:

1. IP is Essential to Raising Capital

2. Challenges of In-licensing

3. Ensure You Know Who Owns the IP

4. Read the Patent Literature to Understand the Space You Are Working In

5. Patents Do Not Mean Automatic Cash Flow

6. Understand License Agreements

Propel Careers Advisor, Laurie Halloran, is leading a webinar on Choosing the Right CRO Partner for Your Clinical Trials.

This webinar will occur on wednesday, November 17, 2010 from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM (EST).  To register, follow this link: http://massdevice.eventbrite.com/

Background on the webinar: The FDA has dramatically stepped up enforcement of clinical trials. In 2009 alone the agency increased FDA sponsor inspections some 70 percent and will likely become even more aggressive as the number of clinical trials rise in light of new regulations and changes to the 510(K) program.  With all this regulation you have to ask yourself, Is your company prepared to put its reputation at stake for your outsourced CRO?

Don't be the latest company to receive a warning letter because you didn't provide the proper due diligence on a vendor, or be the next company that loses millions of dollars on a failed trial because you forgot to ask the right questions before the trial start.  This webinar will provide you with all the tools you need to make the right decisions about picking the right CRO for your clinical trials.

Five lessons you'll take away:

  1. What is the best approach to picking a contract research organization, is bigger always better
  2. What are the most important things to look for in picking a partner. Do you know what questions to ask? Do you know what the FDA is looking for in its oversight of clinical trial
  3. How to create and meet reasonable timelines for partners, investors and other stakeholders
  4. How to measure progress, risk analysis and other execution time lines
  5. What are the best practices in conducting meaningful clinical trials

About Laurie Halloran:  Laurie founded Halloran Consulting Group in 1998. With over 20 years of experience in clinical affairs management with contract research organizations and biotechnology companies, Laurie is recognized as an industry expert in improving the organizational effectiveness of clinical research programs with a specialty in gap analysis and strategic planning. Laurie has executed over 25 clinical trials from Phase I to Phase III for both emerging and established companies and has managed operational budgets of up to $24 MM.
