Bill Simon Out of the Office and On the Water

Every once in a while we let Program Director Bill Simon out of the office.  Click here for his story of his worthwhile trip to the US Match Racing Championships in Marblehead MA.   Also a congratulations to Taylor Canfield and his rock star all female team for their hard fought win.

Thanks to Leighton O'Connor for the photo.
Acorn Update: Winning in Europe
Andrea Nordquist Andrea of the Andrea and Arvid Nordquist the brother/sister Swiss acorn team has been ripping it up on the European Laser Circuit wining the Championnat Méditerranée and becoming the Swiss Female Champion in Laser 4.7   It is nice to see her smiling face on Facebook.

For those of you watching this space, we'll be accepting applications for next year's Acorn and Sapling programs beginning November 1st.

Final note from Europe: Team Tiller who has probably been at Oakcliff more than any Acorn, and were the winners of the Oakcliff International, has just made the semifinals of a world tour event in Marseille. The headlines read 'Tiller; Surprise Package"  Not to us - go Will, Harry, Jono, Brad and Shaun!
Match Racing for Classic Sailors Sunday

The morning after the Classic's Prizegiving, we will see the classic sailors back on the water for a couple of hours of match racing.  Please, promptly be on the dock by 9:30 to join in the post party festivities.

Going forward, and if Hunt has his way :-), all winter the match racing for classics sailors will be at 12:30 on Saturdays and 9:30 on Sundays.

So short and sweet - have a dry and sunny weekend.

John's team at OBMC did a spectacular job putting VC Offshore onto the bottom of the 11.5.  She is doing the best of the 4 Oakcliff boats racing American Fall Series.  Going into the second weekend she is sitting in 3rd with the two Farr 40s separated by only 1/2 of  a point in 5th and 6th.  Looking forward to a weekend that MIGHT not be as shifty as last.

Racing a 12 Meter

Me and Martha;
Yesterday, I was in New York racing in the Harbor School's Regatta.  It was a major fundraiser for this pretty cool school.  Suzy Leech, navigator and America's Cup Sailor as well as camerawoman for ESPN, toured the school and asked... "why didn't they have this school when I was growing up!"

We raced Intrepid and were lucky enough to win!  I steered, Suzy navigated, Hannah Swett skippered and supervised, Melissa Purdy was the tactician and Joan Touchette ran the deck. It was fun to have the America 3 team back thanks to Hannah.  She also brought her brother on main, mom port trimmer and godmother who happens to be Martha Stewart trimming starboard side.

The photo above is me steering.  When I told Suzy to take a photo and post it on facebook, Martha jumped below saying - that's right! I have to tweet.
