Greetings!
Oakcliff is definitely spread across the oceans. As a matter of fact, I think we may have spread ourselves a bit too far and wide this week.  The Volvo stopover in Miami,  the Atlantic Cup racing up the cost and the Clinegatta led by Andrew Campbell added to the final work list on the Ker 50 has us a bit overwhelmed.

As such, we are reaching out to you as our supporters to see if we can get a bit of help this week and weekend.  Read on for details on our projects and for how you can help.

We can use some help, especially at the beginning and the end of the day when we have events like this week's Clinegatta.  The event runs this Thursday through Sunday.

Ann has offered to help set up Thursday to Saturday morning.  We could use someone on Sunday.  Also at the end of the day it is great to have a couple of people to welcome the teams back to the docks, help fuel up and put the ribs back on the moorings and set up the snacks for the debrief.  Bonus is you can listen in on the debrief and learn a bit here and there.

For the chefs amongst you, we have a casual BBQ scheduled on Saturday after racing and we can use a couple of hands to man the BBQ and stay to help clean up.

If you would rather be on the water soaking up the sunshine we can use a couple of mark boat  people either Saturday or Sunday.

Any and all willing please email us at  race@oakcliffsailing.org

One more thing which just might not be as popular :-) .... we will be wet sanding the Ker 50 at some point over the next week.  If anyone has flexible time during the day, let us know and we will give you at least a 24 hour warning.  Again email race@oakcliffsailing.org and we will be eternally grateful as well as a bit faster on the race course.
Tuesday and Wednesday Getting Better
On-Board Coaching
Well it is going to be raining ...  90% chance of rain tomorrow at the time of the match racing drills.  We will still run it for those who show up.  The winds are supposed to be a nice 10-15. So if you are tough enough, sign up and  show up with FULL foul weather gear.

Wednesday is looking a bit better and we will have coaches on the water coaching you while you race. Sign up here.  After racing, we do our debrief at Sagamore so you can also socialize with the other sailors from other boats.

As always please do sign up if you are planing on sailing and if something comes up and you are not going to make it.  Please email us race@oakcliffsailing.org or call 516 802 0368
Congratulations Andreas Giacoumis
TIGHT finish
Last Saturday's Grade 5 saw a new champion for Oakcliff.  Andreas Giacoumis and team won the event besting the two previous event winners.

It was tough racing all around and a bit tough on the boats as well.  We ask that when you are sailing the Oakcliff boats you treat them as your own... as a supporter you can consider yourself an investor in Oakcliff so visit and use but also protect your investment.  Thanks!
Atlantic Cup - Lots of Reports
Jeff and a Class 40
As we have been telling you, we have 4 media crew members and one racer on the Atlantic Cup.   Jeff MacFarlane is sailing with Seb Rogues on Eole Generation GDF Suez.  Supporter Dr. Rob Gorski is the media crew member on board so we are getting great reports.  You can read them here.  Here is a little clip of Jeff before the start. He has gotten better in front of the camera.

Jacon Mayer is on TALAN Bureau Veritas, Sapling Seth Cooley is on Dragon and has done a great job of reporting on the official site as well as his own.

The winds have been a bit light but they are now all doing around 8 knots and should arrive between midnight and 10 tomorrow morning.

It's getting really exciting, just in the last few hours GDF has moved from 110 miles behind the leader to 35 behind and they are going 2 knots faster.   You can track them HERE  The race village is at North Cove Marina so if you are out late or up early, stop by and welcome them in.

Looking forward to seeing you this week in person and on line.  If you are on facebook you DO want to like OakcliffSailing as that is where the up to the minute news is posted.

Take Care and Thank You!

Classics are Back!
Dolphin
Dolphin was the first back to Oyster Bay.  Thanks to Lori and Dave and Brock for helping Mike deliver her safe and sound.

We will be racing - WITH - Seawahaka this Saturday.  The race course will be the same, the starting spread will be the same but there will be race committee on the start line so no 'gimme's allowed.

Competitors are invited to a Mt. Gay party after racing on the porch of Seawanhaka.  It should be a lovely Saturday.

Sunday's racing will be run by Hunt again. And again, the weather looks wonderful.

Sign up here for Saturday
here for Sunday

Mike Komar, Andrew "OD" O'Donnell and Vlad no-last-name-needed, represented Oakcliff in Miami over the past couple of days.  As a part of the deal for me to provide commentary next weekend, Team Camper agreed to show our team around.  They sent me this photo from the bow of the boat of our guys looking very serious. Possibly because at least two of the three aspire to race around the world on the Volvo Ocean Race. Step by step.
