All Wrapped Up for the Holidays
And a New Look for 2012
December 7, 2011
Greetings!
That's right, the Oakcliff boats are out of the water and shrinkwrapped, but that doesn't mean you can't continue getting your sailing fix this winter. And speaking of wrapping - have you finished your Christmas shopping yet? We have some new treats available at the Oakcliff store - Dubarry Boots! Also, check out the article on frostbiting for some exciting winter sailing options.

YRA - Long Island Sound Awards

Dawn Speaking

On Sunday, I sat in on the YRA-LIS awards dinner where Dawn and Andrew gave a great presentation on Oakcliff. It was really cool to take a step back and see the impact we are making on sailing, especially locally here in Oyster Bay and out on Long Island Sound. My big takeaway is that this year, we just scratched the surface.  We'll be pulling out all of the stops next year so stay tuned.

Remember, we can't fufill our mission with out your continued support. Click here for more information about making a tax deductable contribution to Oakcliff this year.

Frostbiting in NY
Harvest Regatta Costume

For those of us who aren't lucky enough to be able to float down to Florida to race for the winter, there are quite a few local option to keep your skills sharp right through the winter. Oakcliff's own, Bill Simon, has been frostbiting  for a number of years. Here's his take on what's going on in the area...

Here in the Northeast, many think that the sailing season is already over. However, there are still plenty of options to sail in what is euphemistically referred to as Frostbiting.  Local options include; Seawanhaka Yacht Club's Sunday Laser and Saturday Team Racing, Manhasset Bay Yacht Club races IC-Dingy and Ideal 18's on Sundays, and the Mamaroneck Frostbiting Association, sails Dyer Dhows on both Saturdays and Sundays. The relatively warm start to this winter is providing you gentle entry if you'd like to try frostbiting.

If you are a supporter, we have an IC-Dingy as well as Lasers for you to use.  Either way, you will find that all of the cold weather sailors will give you a warm welcome and most will arrange for a trial day or two. - Bill Simon

Give Bill a shout if you'd like to get started frostbiting.
