Harvest Regatta Wrap Up and Results
Caper Winner
Saturday saw tricky conditions for the final race of the Fall Classics Series, but at the end of the day Caper came out on top as the series winner.  Congratulations to everyone on board.  We were going to try to name all of them but we think just on the back of a napkin that there were easily over 45 individual sailors who contributed to the series championship.   Anne Caie won the August series and Dolphin secured the September series.

Pizza Fire Truck
In fact anyone who sailed on the classics this year was a winner.  The celebratory party was extra fun with a pizza truck brought in from Greenport and lots of fall decorations on yet another balmy October evening.

Match Racing Goes LONG
MTC 40s Fall Sun
Match Racing with its multiple short races, held close to shore is the perfect format for late Fall Sailing and the Oakcliff Schedule stretches all the way to Thanksgiving.

New-ish to the game?  Sunday's are perfect.  The racing is still very good but the added politeness and influence of the classic sailors makes these events a fun yet effective time on the race course.  Choose your date and sign up on the calendar. Starting this weekend Match Racing for classics moves to Saturday at 12:30 and Sunday at 9:30.

If you already have your team together and you have put in some time at previous events or on the Tuesday match race drills then get gather a team  and sign up for a Grade 5 on October 22, November 5 or November 12th.  Ideally your team races in all three.

Interested in spectating and/or learning from some top teams?  Plan on coming down to the Halloween Regatta October 29 and 30.  We had to close registration early because of the demand. There will be teams here from the USVI and Canada as well as some top local talent.   We will be able to get you on an umpire, mark or spec boat.  Email us here if you are interested in volunteering or spectating.
Harvest Fest Recap
Thank you to everyone who came to the Harvest Fest fundraiser last Friday night. The bands were great, the food was incredible, and the drinks didn't stop flowing till super late. I think it's safe to say that we topped last years Harvest Fest and we're look forward to doing it again next year.

Doublehanded Race Report: Gearbuster
11.3
Jeff and I (Nico) took 3rd place in the Gearbuster regatta this past Saturday. Going into the regatta we were excited about the large doublehanded fleet (13) and we were hopeful for strong breezes which have earned this regatta the name 'Gearbuster'. However, this race turned out to be more of a 'Gear-caress-er' with winds ranging from 0 to 12kts.

However, in keeping with the 'Gearbuster' theme, we did end up with an interesting mishap. Our spinnaker halyard jumped the sheave - causing it to lock in place and made it impossible to douse. Fortunately the kite was socked so we made our turn upwind (at the Stratford Shoal light) and I hopped in my harness and went aloft as Jeff jumped me up the rig. I spiked off the kite after first attaching it to the topping lift (to keep it from shrimping) and we were able to take it down without losing too much time.

The wind completely shut off near the end of the race and we drifted into the finish. The finish was especially close - with the top 4 boats finishing within 11 minutes of each other. Check out the full results here.
And a Bit of Fun - The Pumpkin Hunt
jaconThe Match 40s races in the Second Annual Havest Fest Regatta.  If you haven't yet experienced this you should plan on sailing next year it is a fun time.  First of all costumes are recommended.  This year the winner went to Jacon and his Funky Chicken Team.   Good on them for wearing that much spandex!

The racing has an added twist in that there are 'pumpkin bonuses'   Of the 20 pumpkins floated out to be hunted down some had positive pumpkin points, some negative and some just had prizes connected to them.  In the end of the day Dawn's team won but arguably Koko's team got the best deal as they pulled out pumpkin number 7 and that entitled them to a day off.  Anne Caie also pulled in a prize winning pumpkin and were rewarded with a nice bottle of our sponsor Mt. Gay.  Do I have to say, a fun time was had by all?  Didn't think so.
We know that the balmy weather will not continue but we promise to keep you moving fast enough to stay warm and fit and entertained as we sail towards Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Dawn and Nico

NEWPORT BOAT SHOW
Newport International Boat Show producers and exhibitors are reporting increased sales and attendance at this year's international boat show, which ran from Sept. 15-18. Numbers at this year's boat show were similar to levels that the marine industry saw pre-recession, or about 15 percent

higher than attendance in 2009 and 5 percent over 2010. This drove positive sales and leads at the show, according to exhibitors. -- Boating Industry
