Greetings!
This week is as 'normal' as it gets at Oakcliff. Tonight we will dodge thunderstorms for Tuesday Match Race Drills. Tomorrow night we will field as many Shields teams as possible for the Wednesday Fleet Race hosted by Sagamore. The activity is picking up with the Shields Nationals coming up. Thursday will see everyone out on the beautiful Classics and then back to Oakcliff for a casual BBQ. This Saturday is the middle of 3 back-to-back Grade 5 Match Races. There is one new item. On Sunday we will take the 50 and the 11.3 out for IRC drills as long as we have full crews. If you would like to stay in Oyster Bay on Sunday you have the option of Match Racing for Classics at 2:30 or racing a Shields at Seawanhaka's Sunday Series. So Sign up for one or all of the above events. Read below for reports on last week and a bit on the future, including Sunday's Fastnet start for the Oakcliff All American Offshore Team. |
| Wills Wins Grade 5 |
Congratulations to Andrew Wills who, sailing with the "old school" Oakcliff Team won last Saturday's Grade 3. Team Q - Mike Quaglio made up of his family and supporters finished second. Acorn Jacon Mayer rounded out the top three. He also had acorn Randy Neureuter on board as well as past teammates from the Wesleyan University. Sign up your team for this Saturday's Racing. |

I know it is a bit sketchy out there right now but the singularly best thing you can do to figure this out is come and listen to Hunt. Every Friday this summer Hunt comes into 2 South Street at 12:15 and speaks for about an hour. On a personal note, I have always been 'too busy' to do anything in the financial markets. I now know that there is no such thing and it is not as overwhelming as I thought. Definitely still learning but also gaining confidence.

| Shields: More Than Just Eye Candy |
Oakcliff's Shields Fleet look beautiful mixed in with the classics and against he backdrop of Centre Island but they are more than that. Come September 21st they will be serious platforms, racing for a national title. We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting a 2-Day Tune-Up regatta September 10 & 11th. In order to qualify to race in the Nationals, one is required to race in 10 sanctioned races. We will try to run as many races as possible over those two days. It is still HIGHLY recommended that you race in the Wednesday Nights at Sagamore and Sundays at Seawanhaka but this is an efficient way to get a number of races, perhaps even 10. If you don't own your own shields we do still have some for charter. Please email race@oakcliffsailing.org for details. Other information: NOR, Schedule etc.

Having just returned from a WOW clinic at Bayview Yacht Club I was once again struck by how effective coaching is. Two of the participants in the clinic were on the winning team for the WOW Regatta. Congratulations Cara, Elly and Suzanne. So this is just a normal week at Oakcliff. Coming up we will be going a bit more crazy with a Grade 2 the Wednesday through Saturday of Labor Day Weekend. You are welcome to come down and spectate from the deck of Tomahawk. You are even more welcome to volunteer your talent or your extra beds. We will need housing for wayward sailors.
See You Very Soon,
