| Greetings!
For the past few newsletters we've been talking about all of the places that Oakcliff has gone, Boston, Newport, Marblehead, Halifax, San Francisco etc. It has been great. We went forth and spread the word. We built it and now they are coming. (love that movie Field of Dreams :-)

Evo-Sport Invitational This Weekend!
|
This weekend marks the first time we will have all 10 Match 40's on the water racing together. Ten teams are gathering from around the world to train on Thursday and Friday and then compete on the weekend.

If you are keen to train we can still fit a few into the week-day clinic. But this is tomorrow and Friday so sign up NOW. To follow the racing, either come on down or join twitteror watch the twitter feed on the Oakcliff website http://www.oakcliffsailing.org If you are planning on racing the match racing for classic sailors on Sunday, don't worry, the boats will be ready and rigged for you to just step on board. |
Peacemaker Coming Home
| The Ker 11.5 was back in the Great Lakes and Ken Flaska and team fought hard for a 3rd in the Port Huron to Mac Race. They were fighting for the lead with Vorticies when the wind filled in from the North and let a Swan 42, Tsunami fly by into the lead. I'm a tiny bit happy I wasn't on board, only because my 'little brother' was on Vorticies. They have one more regatta, called the U-Gotta-Regatta in Harbor Springs Michigan and then she and Andrew will be home.

Google Team-building & Find Oakcliff
| In a funny twist, the good people at Google's New York Clity office, Googled looking for a fun team building day. The results: Oakcliff Sailing! We will be using the Match 40s for a fun and productive day of bonding on August 4th. You might ask, what will you do if there is no wind? Don't worry we have a plan and it just might include water balloons. Email Us to inquire about your own team-building / team-bonding / leadership training program. |
| Chamber of Commerce Thursdays |
Thursday nights there is always wind, one might say a Chamber of Commerce Day. Well on August 11th the Board of the Oyster Bay and East Norwich Chamber of Commerce will be invited to Oakcliff to race in the Thursday Night with us. If you are a classics boat owner and have room for a few extra on August 11th, please let us know.
Don't forget that every Thursday we have a BBQ. Everyone is asked to toss a suggested $20 donation into the bucket or bring a dish to share. The menu continues to be varied and delicious.
Sign up for tomorrow night's race here.
Also feel free to have friends sign up. It is a great way to introduce new sailors to Oakcliff. There are still 6 Thursday's left in the season but they will be gone before you know it.

It Takes a Boat Yard
| |

Jeff MacFarlane and Jeff Nicoletti are on their way to Newport to race in yet another shorthanded race. This time it is the New England SOLO/TWIN Championship jointly run by the Goat Island and Newport Yacht Club's starting this Friday.
On the way back from Halifax, the boat took a little detour into Tenant's Harbor Maine. The strut that holds the prop shaft broke. It was not a cheap repair but we all agree that if this had to happen on the road, we were lucky it happened near the Lyman Morse Boatyard. They helped Vlad, Mike and Jeff get the boat back, better than new and on their way to Newport in time for the start. One of the owners Scott Lyman took us on as his special project. He also was happy to report that they are in the process of building an Open 60. I might just have to go up and check it out .. but maybe by car.
Final thought - it might be two people on the boat but it has definitely taken the whole team to get them to the start line.

On that note - thank you to everyone who has supported Oakcliff in the past. Bring your friends and we hope to see you all soon out on gorgeous Oyster Bay.
Sincerely,
Dawn Riley Oakcliff Sailing Center |

| Women On the Water - in the "D" | | Oakcliff's Coaching techniques will come in handy at Bayview Yacht Club on Friday August 5th when I'll be running my third Women on the Water Clinic.
If you are a woman in the Midwest and haven't tried this clinic I highly recommend it. It's a full day designed for a broad audience. We cover everything from rules 101 to how to keep my daughter in racing. There are on the water drills and debriefs. The Saturday and Sunday regatta allows for you to put your new found skills to the test. Kind of like a 'Clinegatta' but fleet racing as opposed to match racing.
Click Here for More Info and maybe I'll see you next weekend in Detroit.
