Greetings!
St. Patrick's Day is nearly upon us so remember this old Irish adage: Never iron a four-leaf clover. You don't want to press your luck!
Sailors with a bent for investment can make the most of their luck by joining this Saturday's back-to-back seminars. Hunt's financial seminar will start early at 10:30 and match racing champion Chris Museler will follow at noon with our Onshore Match Racing Clinic. There will be a short break in between so bring your lunch or stop by Jack Halyard's for breakfast first. |

Umpires and Judges - In Demand
| |

Judges and umpires are key players in the racing game. Sailors with these skills are one step ahead. Oakcliff has three opportunities for you to practice up.
Riverside Yacht Club's Singlehanded Champs, Sunday, April 3, will be sailed in Dyer dinghies and they are looking for two judges. Lunch and refreshments sweeten the deal. Contact Andree for more info: apruett@us.ibm.com
Fordham and Columbia Universities are hosting a inter-conference regatta April 16-17 at the Morris Yacht & Beach Club on City Island. A judge is needed for Sunday's racing. If you can volunteer email us at: race@oakcliffsailing.org
Not a qualified umpire yet? Bruce Cook, Chair of the US SAILING Umpire Committee and an internationally certified judge and umpire, will run an Umpire Workshop at Oakcliff after work on July 14 and 15 in conjunction with our Youth Match Racing Clinegatta July 14-17.
In addition to satisfying the requirements for national umpire certification or re-certification, participants will have a chance to actually umpire during the Youth Clinegatta. Newly minted umpires will receive coaching and an assessment, which is part of the certification process. Cost is $75 and includes refreshments each evening. You can start preparing and register now. |
Charter a Shields for the National Champs
|
The Shields National Championship will be co-hosted by SCYC and Oakcliff Sailing Center Sept. 21-24. Our six Shields have been fluffed and buffed into top shape and are available for charter. It makes sense to act early, so you and your crew will get the most benefit out of practice and racing on 'your' boat. If you haven't sailed a Shields in a while you can try them out by signing up for our early racing, including Tuesday Match Racing Drills through April and the US SAILING ABC Area Qualifier Match Race April 15-17. Charter cost is $18,000 for the season and step-on-step-off services are also available. Please email us at race@oakcliff.org for more information. |

"A windy day is no day for thatching." So be smart and spend your breezy days at Oakcliff Sailing Center. It's more fun than thatching your roof!
May the wind always be at your back,
