In like a lion...
March 4, 2011
Greetings!
Sanding, painting, and screwguns blazing, March madness is upon us. Far from lion around, we're roaring full speed ahead preparing our fleet and tenders for a busy breezy Spring. Plan to join in our spring clinics and practice sailing. Our Message? To be prepared is half the victory!

Our area yacht clubs are making it easy for Oakcliff sailors to head for the fall Shields Nationals, sponsored by SCYC. Sagamore YC Wednesday Night Series race organizers are sending a shout-out to Oakcliff sailors, as they are ensuring a Shields division this year. Multiple starts and windward/leeward races can yield great Shields action for those looking to focus on improving their skills in this class. We'll be using our Shields, freshly painted and prepped, for our early Tuesday Match Racing Drills as well as our Oakcliff Early Bird Match Race Series April 2 and 9 and the US SAILING Area ABC Match Race Qualifiers. Here's a great opportunity to field a team, (charter an Oakcliff Shield perhaps?), make your mark and have fun doing it. Email us at race@oakcliffsailing.org for more information about our Shields fleet.

Oakcliff Prime Venue for Inaugural Grand Slam Series

Our Oakcliff International match racing event August 30-September 3 is one of four top-drawing Grade two competitions included in this North American match racing series. We're part of something special as we join with the Chicago Match Race Center, Bayview YC, and Manhasset Bay YC in this exciting effort. Our June 24-27 Grade 3 Summer Doubleheader winner will receive an invite to the Chicago Match Cup. And winners of the July 28-31 Oakcliff Summer Invitational are invited to compete in our Grand Slam Oakcliff International event. It just keeps getting better. Dave Perry Says Match Racing Moving Doubletime

You can take part in all things match racing by getting involved in Oakcliff's Tuesday match racing drills, Early Bird Series, Open events and Invitationals. Dave Perry, Chris Museler and other Oakcliff pros offer their expertise and support in some great pre-race clinegattas. It's all part of a rising tide says match racer Dave Perry who has championed the positive growth of match racing in the US for many years. Dave is an Oakcliff board member and US Sailing's Match Racing Committee Chairman. He says from 2007 to 2010 the number of graded match races has increased from 34 to 65 events. This year will see more open and women's events as well as "clinegattas" for youth and sailors new to this type of racing.Take a look at this article on Match Racing on the Rise in US.
