March 12 Onshore Clinic Features 'Fast Facts!'

Match racer Chris Museler
Chris Museler
Veteran USMRC racer Chris Museler will answer your burning questions at the Oakcliff Onshore Match Racing 101 Clinic, Saturday, March 12. Among his many racing highlights, Chris has raced four Prince of Wales events with Dave Perry, taking two wins and two second places between 2006-2009.  If you haven't match raced since November, or are new to the concept this will be a great afternoon spent. Chris says a match racer's game at any level can be strengthened each year by reviewing common scenarios, umpire calls and boat speed/handling tips.
New match racers can learn how the game differs from fleet racing, from the starting system to on-the-water umpiring. We'll also discuss game-raising tactics, crew moves and mindset. Action-packed racing videos help illustrate racing hows and whys and Oakcliff events and other regional match racing opportunities are discussed. You can even explore how to get involved as race committee or a flag-waving umpire.Talk to each other and talk to the pros to find out who needs crew and who needs you! Register now to heat up your 2011 skills.
AYC Spring Series and IRC Date Change!

Ker 50 on her way to the racecoursePlease note this important change: The AYC Spring Series is now three days, not four: dates are Saturday, April 30, Sunday, May 1 and Saturday, May 7. We will be fielding up to five boats but need you to jump on board so we know how many to splash in the coming weeks.  We also ask that you complete at least one IRC practice session prior to  racing. Practice dates are now Sunday, April 10 and Saturday, April 23. Practice session and AYC Registration is just a click away! April 10 Practice  April 23 Practice

Oakcliff Talent Heading for Warmer Waters

KomarAcorn graduate (that makes him a Sapling) Mike "Koko" Komar is heading to Long Beach, California for this year's Ficker Cup, a feeder race for the Congressional Cup. Koko will fly cross country to drive a Catalina 37 and will be joined by fellow Acorn Jeff MacFarlen on the bow. Andrew Wills will serve as tactician/main trimmer and Oakcliff supporters Mike Tolsma and Mike and Kyra Qualiggo will handle the pit and jib trim. No St. Patrick's Day green beer for these racers as if they win, they'll qualify for the last spot in the Congressional Cup and face off with Coach Dave Perry. Dawn and Ronnie are also heading south to St. Maarten for the Heineken Regatta. Dawn is coaching as Ronnie leads  "frontier-land' (yes the bow ;-) with this San Francisco-based competitor.
Good luck with your Spring sailing preparations.Be sure to make our Oakcliff events a big part of your 2011 winning season!

Sincerely,
