We trust that everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is looking forward to a cheery and cozy holiday season.  If you are a little too cozy don't forget that SCYC has frostbiting and Oakcliff has lasers you can use.  If that doesn't catch your fancy then maybe you just want to take some time and plan your next season's schedule.  Read on.

We have 4 lasers at SCYC but the blade bags and sails are at Oakcliff.  If you would like to use one for Frostbiting  you just need to email race@oakcliffsailing.org or call us at 516 802 - 0368 before Friday noon so we can arrange for a bag check out and check in.

North U at Oakcliff
Club
The Long Island North U - as in North University will be hosted at Oakcliff Sailing Center, Sunday February 13th.  This should be an easy date for you to remember.  The day before Valentine's Day.   Bill Gladstone himself will be the leader of the seminar. The really good news is that 2011 Oakcliff Supporters receive a significant discount.   There will be more information shortly but for now just save the date.

Coaching Jobs
Colege Racing

We are aware of two part time coaching jobs for the spring.

Fordham University is looking for a part-time coach for the spring season, primarily in March & April and if all goes well and this up and coming team qualifies for nationals, the job would extend into May.  It's possible that the part-time person this spring might become the full-time person starting in July.  For more information contact race@oakcliffsailing.org

Nantucket High School is looking for a coach starting in March.  The position would continue through June and there is also the potential for this person to work for Nantucket Community Sailing through the summer.  So if you are keen to spend some time on this quaint island contact Diana Brown by emailing her at: Diana@nantucketcommunitysailing.com

Match Racing Schedule 2011
Match Racing

Oakcliff will host five Major events in 2011, all designed for those with an eye on climbing the ISAF World Rankings. Top US match racer and Oakcliff board member, Dave Perry will headline an onshore kickoff event in April and coach "Clinegattas" in the spring and summer. A prestigious new Grade 2 Event, The Oakcliff International, aims to assemble the world's best for competition in Oyster Bay.

The 2011 season will feature practice sessions each Tuesday evening from May through September. Sailors attending Tuesday Night Drills receive live feedback from a dedicated team of professional coaches and on the water umpires.

Oakcliff will also offer a series of twelve one-day Grade 5 events for club level sailors looking to gain match race experience and prepare for national-level competition. These one-day events are umpired and conclude with a competitor debriefing following racing.

Wow, I thought that this was going to be a short and cheery little issue of the newsletter but there is still a lot going on.  Just in case we don't put out another issue this month - have a great Holiday Season and we'll see you soon!

Sincerely,

We won the bid!  Seawanhaka and Oakcliff joined together to bid for the 2011 Shields Nationals and we won.

The event will be held September 21 - 24 and will  go a long way towards rejuvenating the fleet in Western Long Island Sound.  Currently there are fleets being strengthened and established at Larchmont and  Indian Harbor.

In Oyster Bay we have the possibility of having 18 on the starting line for any one regatta.  Oakcliff is currently seeking teams who would like to make a charter commitment and reserve a boat for the season.  email race@oakcliffsailing.org for more information.
