Harvest Party

Get your tickets for the Harvest Party NOW!   The event is October 8, a week from Friday. We hope to sell out so make sure that you are a part of this fun night.  There will be plenty of great food, beer, wine and a signature Mt. Gay and Regatta Ginger Beer cocktail.    Live music and dancing will take place in the dance hall.  The whole Oakcliff team has been drafted to be on the decorations committee along with Dodds and Eder.

Supporters are providing live music and many local restaurants are providing the food for the strolling dinner.

Silent Auction items include: A night at the romantic Oheka Castle; Dining at many local restaurants including, Jack Halyard's, Coach, La Pizzetta, Wild Honey, and a Rothman's Sunday Brunch for 4; gift baskets and unique gifts from the coin gallery.  You can work off the party with a gift certificate to Evolution Fitness for a personal training and yoga sessions.  We also have a couple of very unique and entertaining  items including a world class opera singer who will come to your home and add some class to your dinner party with 30 minutes of music.

Overall this is a night not to be missed.
Harvest Regatta

On October 9, the day after the Harvest Party the classics will sail in their last race for the fall series and it is also the time for you to gather together your family and friends (or maybe a new friend made at the Harvest Party) and compete in the Harvest Regatta.  This will be a fun event - points will be given for costumes and for pumpkins retrieved from the harbor.   Trust me it will be fun :-)

The classic sailors are also encouraged to be in costume or at least in era appropriate dress.   I think Kirk Larsen may have a head start on the appropriate regatta dress - see photo at left.
Fall Festivals and Anne Caie
Anne Caie

Anne Caie is on her way back from Greenport on this glorious day between weather fronts.   She was out in Greenport over the weekend at their classic yacht festival and was a very popular girl.   Oakcliff will also be participating in some way with the Oyster Fest October 16 and 17.

Note: If you are racing in the Manhassett Fall Series that weekend make sure you tell the  people at the road block that you are going to OBMC/Oakcliff and need to park there.
I hope to see you this weekend and for sure next Friday night!

With Celebration,

Match Racing
There is one team who would like to do a match racing scrimmage this weekend.  If you are keen to sail please email race@oakcliffsailing.org ASAP

Literally Night Match Racing: There will be 3 more Tuesday Night Match Race Drills. It is tough with the sun setting so early but we have managed to get in some good practice.

Last night by the time we were into the 5th race  the storm clouds were rolling through and the sun was below the trees, it looked more like the Southern Ocean than Oyster Bay.  How fun!

Grade 3: The Halloweeen Weekend Grade 3 Match Race is shaping up.  The invites have been sent out and we will be able to use volunteers on race committee and with the umpire teams.  We can also use help housing of out of town competitors and in organizing the social events.  This all count towards your volunteer time.
Interesting Reading and Viewing
Financial Times Yachting Report
This is quite an interesting insert that was in the Financial Times.  It covers a bit of classics and racing and more significantly the superyacht industry.  You can down load the .pdf on the top right side of the page.

The racing in Europe on the  TP52s was really fast and fun.  If you have a bit of time watch the video from Day 5.  It is entertaining and you will likely learn a fair amount of the IRC boat systems.
