Summer's Here ... For a While Longer
Fall's Busy Schedule
September 7, 2010
Greetings!
Does it feel like Summer was here and gone all in about a week?  Does to me but here we go.  Labor Day marks the end of summer and the beginning of school.  The end of Friday closings and the beginning of detailed traffic reports.  At Oakcliff it is the end of hot steamy days and the beginning of two months full of back to back weekend racing.  Read on for more details.

Vineyard Race More Windy Than a Hurricane!
In a race that was marked by over 20% of the fleet dropping out,  the Oakcliff Farr 40 had a spectacular sleigh ride out the sound to the mark off of New Haven and then they hung on and slugged it out coming back upwind into the eye of the wind finishing at 8am Sunday Morning.  Unfortunately the 50 broke a steering cable while doing 21 knots.  We were all disappointed but also realize it could have been a lot worse.  There was another boat in this class who was hitting 26 knots when their mast fell down.  Again congratulations to the Farr 40 team who stayed tough and finished the race!  Mark and Sue DiSanti, Ron Saccardo, Vlad, Alec Snyder, Eric Barreveld Bob Zazerra, John Baum, Paul Bacchioocchi, and Patrick Morris.
Thank you to everyone who pitched in and helped prepare for  "Earl".  While it was a bit frustrating that he never showed, it wasn't for naught.  We will now keep the boats tied up in 'hurricane mode' as our 'default' through the Fall so we are one step ahead.

See you soon,

Tickets On Sale
The Harvest Regatta Kickoff Party is ready to roll.  Tickets can be purchased on line at Oakcliff Sailing's Website

This is a joint fund-raising event with Oakcliff Sailing Center and the Oyster Bay Main Street Association.  The evening will begin at 2 South Street with a bountiful feast provided by local restaurants and progress to 4 South Street for live music.  Also featured will be the art work of Kirk Larsen and Bill Jonas.  A silent auction will run throughout the event with some very unique and valuable items to be won.

This is a great way to get warmed up for the Harvest Regatta the next day which encompasses the Classics final race and as many Oakcliff Boats as we can field.  Costumes are encouraged so start gathering your friends and family and make a weekend of it in beautiful colorful Oyster Bay.
Cat Cup in SF?
San Francisco's Cup Plans

This is an article that talks about the city of San Francisco's plans for hosting the America's Cup.  The venue surrounds the America True Offices and it would be awesome to see the cup there.  Although I have it on good authority that they will be sailing multihulls in 2014 which to me is a bit disappointing.   Next Monday BMW Oracle is planning on announcing the type of boat so we can see if my sources are correct or not. The venue won't be announced until later in the year or possibly just after the new year.
